Very very very few white boys play basketball in the south, most play baseball, football, soccer, hell even lacrosse now over basketball. There’s just not many leagues as said especially in smaller urban areas or interest.
You play basketball because it’s too damn cold and dark all winter in half the country to do anything else. You can throw some lights on and play soccer and baseball and anything else all winter. Hell my town has a swim team that practices year round in an outdoor heated pool.

So?, it doesn't remove the fact that most those guys played 10 + years in the NBA.

All kids in the South played sports outside year round. We always had a basketball goal outside, but there weren't leagues for kids in the small towns I lived in. That was in the 70's. My hometown built a rec center, and had leagues a couple of decades later, but the only non-school sport was Little League Baseball in the three small towns I lived in the 60's & 70's.
We only got snow once every five or six years. Winters used to only last from Nov. thru Feb. Now it's like Dec thru March, but it's still short. It was hot at football game for all but one or two games a year. Still is that way down here. Was that way in Texas too.
My nephews grew up in Eagle River, Alaska. They played in more than one basketball league a year as kids.

Georgia has 2 million more white people than Iowa, and Georgia has only had 2 NBA white guys that I can think of and OP rattled off about 20 from Iowa.

No, they aren’t all from Iowa I can assure you.
But that’s not the point- as a %, there are more blacks in Georgia than Iowa, therefore you see more that make it.

It’s like saying California puts more people in the NFL than LA…. Of course they do bc they have more people….

I get what you are saying as far as percentages go. I just mentioned Iowa because for a state with just over 3 million population... we have put a lot of white guys in the NBA...

Yeah that will never change. Got “recruited” to an all black intramural team back in college after hopping with some of the guys at the rec center. They only referred to me as Larry Bird or JJ Redick. They weren’t wrong tho. I was lethal beyond the arc. I leaned into it tho and would shake their hands like a businessman instead of giving daps and pounds. Say the corniest white guy shite possible. They loved it.
