Ozzie Smith is GOAT and not even close.

Yes they do. If there were lefty catchers it would be much easier to steal 3B. Also, the throw to 2B is slightly further for a lefty because he has to throw across his body and in front of the bag. It's not much but in baseball every inch and millisecond counts on a steal. It's an even more difficult throw if the batter is right handed. Now I understand that it's also more difficult for a right handed C with a left handed batter, but a lefty C is baseball suicide for the defense, at least when you get to the higher levels of play.

I realize that size, shape, speed and other physical attributes are necessary in any sport, but is there another game that eliminates a portion of the population at certain positions because of this particular attribute?
The success and constant stream of left handed Qbs really amaze me.

You should also know that lefties should not play RF because it's a lot more difficult to catch a ball down the line. However, your RF and CF should have the strongest arms so there can be exceptions to this.

Have you even watched baseball before? I can tell you haven't played it.

Don Mattingly played third for a few games but his mustache evened out his leftiness.

They aren't prohibited from playing the position, which is the point.

I know, let's just completely reverse the field. 1st base will now be third, 3rd now 1st, you get the idea!
Oh, wait...that would eliminate not only right-handed players from certain positions, but the majority of the baseball players since most people are right-handed.
You're an idiot.

Show me where I suggested making any changes to the game at all.

Of course. Where in your pea brain did you come up with the idea to do that?
You have the debate skills of a prepubescent girl.

Ignore most of the answers in this thread. It's wrong. It has nothing to do with throwing ability. The correct answer is left-handers are pretty much automatically eliminated from playing four of the nine positions on the diamond (2B, SS, 3B, and Catcher). So the only positions they can play are OF and 1B. But to play the outfield, you need to be pretty athletic and have some speed. Not everybody can handle it. So the only position available for left-handers to play by default is 1B. It's more by necessity why so many LHers play 1B. RHers can pretty much anywhere in the diamond. LHers can't so that's why many of them are stuck playing 1B.

The dumb part was you stating baseball is a flawed sport bc lefties are at a disadvantage in reference to certain defensive positions.
The same could be said for every sport based on physical attributes. You just picked lefty/righty to make your point.
By your logic, I could easily say basketball is a flawed sport bc anyone under 6'6" can't play center and that eliminates most of the population.
Can't play OL unless you are a certain height/weight...football is flawed
Just dumb

Your opinion, and apparently the only part of my original post that has people ruffled.

I agree. I stated as much.

Yes you could.
The difference is that speed, height, weight, athleticism are different from righty/lefty.

I'd rather be that than someone who can't hear a different perpective.

I have a different question, why isn't 1B a lefthanded position like SS is a righty position? Every infielder should make the most common throws across the body with chest toward th infield. A pivot throw with back to plate should be exception.

C is not a righty position. Could easily be a lefty. A better question would be why are righties at 1B and the answer is that 1B is normally an offensive position rather than a defensive position. RF as well. Those two positions do not require the skill or range of other positions and are usually occupied by hitters.
