Why are front offices still throwing away cap dollars paying QB’s ridiculous money

I do not understand why franchises continue to make quarterbacks, especially ones that are not a top tier guy, one of the highest paid players in the NFL in regards to the percent of their team’s salary cap.
This figure is a little dated, but still relevant in regards to highly paid QB’s not winning shite.
Since 2010, no QB that has won a Super Bowl has accounted for more than 14.97% of their team’s total annual cap and that was Brady in 2021; $25 mil. Before that, Tom again in 2019 with 12.4% of the Pats cal. The average cap hit percentage of a super bowl winning QB is 8.23% over that same span.
For future reference, Mahomes, who is now the top paid player in the league, will account for more than 15% of KC’s entire cap in 2021. So if trends continue, he will not win another Super Bowl. We saw this same thing play out when Russ got paid, amongst others.
This entire argument has fascinated me in regards to the number of media personalities and others covering the NFL that scream about guys that are definitely not elite getting $40 mil+ a year. As a Cowboys fan I’ve seen it first hand all year with our local media.
The Cowboys are probably going to sign Dak for an annual salary more than that. When that happens we will be dead in the water in regards to competing for a championship once the ink dries on that contract.
It’s just so clear to me that this is such a retarded way to team build and I don’t understand how it’s being blatantly ignored by front offices.

It’s business. Teams care about making money, not winning SBs. One does not equal the other.

Isn't this exactly the guidance NE just followed by pushing Tom out? And how'd that work out?

Eventually, some team is going to try cycling through QBs every 5 years because the secret recipe is loading up a roster around a good QB on a rookie deal.
I thought the Rams would do this with Goff.

Because market or something. What is funny is if these business owners retracted salaries across the board, it would create hilarious commentary.

Their mistake was relying on trash cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham

Fast forward a few years and you’ll see that loser Kirk Cousins in there.

For the time period noted, there are only two Super Bowls (Newton and Ryan at one each).

I get Why you pay Mahomes
I dont Get why you pay a Stanford or Tannehill what they’re being paid.
Tannehill makes 34 mill in 2022.
Realistically your best bet is to either have a QB on his rookie deal or have a ring chasing QB taking a smaller salary than they could probably demand (Brady and Manning on the Broncos)
Drew was making a lot of Money for a QB at the time when the Saints won. Not like what they make now, but he was one of the highest paid QBs.
Honestly if QB Contract keep going like this I feel Like they’ll need to seriously adjust the salary cap or I would Like to see teams be able to tag 1 player as outside their cap.

I mean over half the super bowls are owned by Brady. That’s a shitty way to look at this.

There are 6 rings on that list (just not in the referenced time frame) and several more SB appearances. QB is by far THE most important position.
And Brady could have been on that list if he wanted. He took more than one paycut in his time in NE.

If this were the case, coaches wouldn't be hired and fired so willy nilly in the NFL.

Where is this coming from? NE didn't push Tom out, he left.

You have to think about how the front office is incentivized and what they consider to be a risk from a money perspective. You see this in the corporate sector quite a bit.

Perhaps I’m crazy, and while I acknowledge Brady’s greatness, I don’t think he has the same amount of rings if he demands a higher salary resulting in less money being available to team build.

Brady has always gone with the “I’m comfortable but I’ll give the team flexibility” contract.
Which is great for the team and it’s not like he doesn’t make a ton of fricking money.

That is my point. Paying a QB top dollar currently results in not winning the Super Bowl after the contract is signed.
