I am for Tiger
Its a combination of all the reasons listed...
Fan since day one
I want to see him break the records
He's a boss
To watch women get pissed at him!

this.
there's a few girls I know who constantly spout bullshite about Tiger, but just got back from a Kesha concert last night. Irony?

Who is rooting for or against Tiger and why?

Against, but only because I want to see Ian Poulter win it.

Against. Tiger is a terrible ambassador for the game and has zero redeeming qualities.

Rooting Against.
I've just never liked Tiger. I respect his game a whole lot, but I've just never been a "fan". Plus, I've always been a Phil fan.
Maybe it's got something to do with not wanting to see Nicklaus' record be broken.

For Tiger...I like to watch elite athletes dominate

I'm rooting for Phil because he is my favorite golfer. If he isn't in contention, I would like to see Tiger there at the end win or lose. I would like to see him continue to chase the record. I don't care if he breaks it or not, but getting close makes it more compelling to watch.
ETA: As for Tiger himself, I don't really like the guy, but I don't root against him. Golf is more fun/interesting when he is good.
At Tuesday's practice round, there was a super group of Phil, Dustin Johnson, Ricky Fowler and Matt Kuchar playing together. The crowd following them was easily the biggest on the course all day until...
...Tiger shows up late in the afternoon and just plays 9. The range, practice green and crowd that followed just Tiger and Fred Couples around the front 9 was at least 4 times as big. He moves the meter more than all of the other golfers combined (including Phil, Bubba and Rory).

I want him to win so the Golf World will enter chaos, yet return to the Ancien Regime.

FOR
The impact Tiger has on the overall game of golf is fricking incredible - the sport needs him to keep being Tiger

For. As a guy in my early 20s, Tiger is the main reason I play golf and the reason most people on this board are fans of the game.

Can't blame anyone for hating Tiger.
He's a POS in many ways... definitely the most polarizing athlete I've ever seen.
But, I do pull for him thanks to the sheer excitement and talent he brings to golf.

I love him because we have something In common. We are both obsessed with sex.
Tiger: frick bitches. Get Money.
Just for this weekend, at least.

Im rooting for.
Golf is better when he is winning. When Tiger dominates in a major it makes for great TV.
Maybe its the overt showing of emotion when he's on. The first pump. The huge cheers from the gallery.
I'll say it again: Golf is better when Tiger is winning.

Yeah, when he won the US Open at Pebble Beach by 17 strokes. GREAT TELEVISION.

For
97.9% of the rest of professional golf is sleep-inducing and no one cares about them.
People may hate it but Tiger brings life to the sport when he is on top the leaderboard...especially now that he's so publicly flawed as a human being. We actually like flaws, because we like redemption and we know we're all flawed.
Golf needs flawed characters and to tone down that aww shucks, pristine pompous but ultimately completely phony attitude.
