re: Who is rooting for or against Tiger and why?

I'm rooting Against him winning but for his relevance if that makes any sense. His continuing of losing majors is equally as compelling as winning. I want him to eat years of humble pie.

According to M&M's informal poll this morning, their email/tweet responses, 85% of golf fans are pulling for him. I know for a fact that 8 out of 10 of my best friends are not pulling for him. The sex scandal is a personal thing & while I do hold that against him as a person, the main reason I don't like him and pull against him is that he is a POS to the thousands of golf fans, the marshalls & grounds keepers at each tour course. He takes rudeness to a higher level that is only matched by Bonds. My best Masters would be for him to 3 putt on 18 to lose to any other golfer, but to Phil would be a nice touch.

I think that's a dumb reason to hate any athlete because then you'd hate almost all athletes.
All athletes cheat, most are scumbags and you usually don't get to that level unless you're an arrogant a-hole.
Just b/c a few have been cool with you doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of fans out there who say the opposite about your "favorite player."
It's a favorite team pajama-wearing way to view sports.
All athletes should be liked/disliked for their skill - not for what you think or what you think you know about them personally.

I try to root for everyone because I don't want anyone to fail, and everyone at their best makes for a better event.

because people are quite dumb if they think they know about anyone or have some personal connection to said athlete.
And most all athletes are roughly the same. You don't know these people - stop pretending you do...because you read some tabloid..."Phil's a good guy - Tiger's an a-hole." Please, it's so childish.
All humans are complicated - you don't know jack - and the ones you think you like are probably secretly the worst. Stop moralizing through the grapevine.

pretty sure fans have the cognitive ability to like or dislike players for whatever the hell they choose to.

For.
But I would be more happy if any SEC guy won.
Tiger is probably a prick(never met him. But he is undoubtedly the most compelling athlete in sports.
I also kinda like the story line of someone that is te best at something being broken down to their lowest point(in personal an professional life) but then rebuilds himself, which is something that he seems to be doing. Especially in an incredibly mental sport such as golf.

One can choose to ignore it, over look it, realize that they don'r have complete information and disregard, but it doesn't equate to childishness if you make a judgment based on the personality that you have access to and have witnessed.

Against.
Well not really against, just not for. I don't think he's ready to return to dominance yet.

Well, you don't know jack bout me, other than what you read here, so you are obviously childish & dumb for expressing an opinion bout me. I doubt seriously that I have to know Barry Bonds personally to "know" he's a borish prick; nor is every athlete like him. The same applies for Tiger. His reputation is what it is & many do choose to ignore it & pull for the golfer. Which is their right. I & many others choose not to & pull against him. Which is my right. I simply answered the OP's question with my opinion.

Still rooting for Tiger. Hope he goes HAM to piss everyone off after the 2 stroke penalty.
Posted on 4/13/13 at 9:06 am to parkjas2001
Against because I always have and I can't stand his antics on the golf course.
Posted on 4/13/13 at 9:08 am to BluegrassBelle
For him. Watching golf is alot more exciting when he is in contention, especially in a tournament like this. One of the reasons I was excited to be able to attend Tuesdays practice round was finally getting to see Tiger in person. I'm a big fan.
However, right now I'm rooting for him to man up and DQ himself for breaking the rules...because it's the right thing to do.

For. Always
He is the best that has ever played and I love a good meltdown.
If he wins the Masters after the 2 stroke penalty, I will make a few people cry over it.

For, because I want him to only tie Jack and this Master's will have an asterisk.
frick him.
Oh, and frick Rick Reilly who noted this AM that Tiger admitted his intent to gain an advantage with the drop location but backed off his previous position that Tiger should DQ himself.

I don't like Tiger. But I don't hate him.
I like records, but I like the Masters more. I don't need to get hyped up to enjoy it.
I would prefer a Masters where Tiger is in the hunt on Sunday but loses to a golfer I like a lot more (Freddie, Sneds, Kuchar, Dufner, etc.).
People who want Tiger to dominate in every tournament confuse me. I like watching exceptional golf, but I like competition, too.
