Texas backdoored that 7 points and at no point did they seem to threaten that game at all.

Hoosiers are usually pretty smart. Indiana has no chance Saturday. None.

There are easily 6-7 teams in the field capable of beating them on the right day.

Even if you're the best team it's hard to win every game.

The larger the playoff the more the likelihood of a fluke result. I'd guess Ohio State has at best about a 40 percent chance of winning it all even though I'd say it's clear they are the best team.

The BYU's, Texas Tech's etc. don't have a chance, the talent gap is just too big.

I think you’re significantly underrating Tech. They have been a monster this year and their only loss came with their third string QB.

I think the SEC schools and Oregon would have a shot at Ohio State, but Tech should also be included in that conversation.

The entire field will have a shot, but they should and will be pretty heavy favorites.

I’m guessing most people have watched maybe a few quarters OSUs played this year. No need to get all worked up, Oregon simp. It’s easy to think they’re beatable given their history and schedule after conference play.

This right here. If Ohio State brings their C game, they can lose. They bring their B+ game and they won’t. That defense is filthy and Jeremiah Smith is a cheat code.

I think UGA or maybe ND is it. I'm not convinced OSU is better than their team last year. But, the rest of the sport is down, too.

Assuming chalk this weekend, the winner of ND vs OSU in the quarters is winning the national title. UGA is only other team I would put money on, but Stockton is such a toss up. Dark horse is Texas Tech.

ND isn’t even a lock to get in. Talk about a weak schedule too.

Who has a legitimate shot at beating Ohio State

F+ Offensive and Defensive efficiency ratings
Ohio State (O8 D1)

Potential playoff teams
Georgia (O12 D11)
Indiana (O3 D3)
Texas Tech (O15 D2)
Oregon (O7 D5)
Alabama (O13 D10)
Notre Dame (O6 D6)
Miami (O17 D9)
Texas A&M(O11 D15)
BYU (O18 D17)
Oklahoma (O51 D4)
Virginia (O50 D25)
North Texas (O2 D66)
Tulane (O47 D63)
James Madison (O33 D26)

Ohio States toughest opponents so far
Washington (24-6) (O20 D18)
Texas (14-7) (O39 D14)
Michigan (27-9) (O28 D21)
Penn State (38-14) (O19 D36)
Illinois (34-16) (O24 D52)

Basically everyone in the playoffs will be a more complete team than anyone they've played except Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Virginia, and the G5s.

I would pick Ohio State to win the national championship right now but they aren't that tested. Elite may be understating how good the defense is, and the offense is very good bordering elite but it's not like it's some sort of historic machine.

Georgia, Indiana, Texas Tech, Oregon, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Miami are all capable of beating them, but again if I had to pick right now I'd take Ohio State to win it all.

Great post. Personally I’m getting 2006/2007 vibes from this team when they got hosed by Florida & LSU as heavy favorites in the tile game. Talented & all the talking heads think they are so great but they haven’t played anyone who can punch them in the mouth yet. We’ll see what happens when they do.
