Michigan State Even though they've got a long tradition and wouldn't seem to be a candidate, they wouldn't mind your chosen color scheme.

That and the whole 300/Sparta thing

I would say Vandy, but no one would notice either way. So take the cash.

In what world do you live in that you think Vanderbilt would need $500M if it meant cheapening their brand?

I feel like Oregon State would to keep up with the Ducks. Beavers is a dumb name anyway and orange and black is

Rutgers should change their name to university of New Jersey for free maybe with a mascot of Trash or Pine barrens

Without Nike backing, how is green/yellow Ducks any less "dumb" than black/orange Beavers?

I'd rather have a unique name like the Beavers than be the 45th team named the Tigers in D1. I realize I root for the Wildcats, and that's not super unique, but there's room for unique mascots.

Orange and Black is a fine combo. SF Giants, Orioles...there are plenty of teams who make it look good. OSU has had some good uniforms too.

Just because they are such unique names

Vanderbilt doesn't have an athletic department they disband it in 2003. They are the only Division 1 school without one.

No one in the SEC.

Because it would risk their removal from the conference where they make that much money in 10 years or so.

You do have a point. I’ve always wondered why Auburn insists on being one of many Tigers instead of sticking with War Eagles which is cool. And they actually have an eagle already.

Cal is a bridge too far. The Golden Bears and colors have a better history.

Right now Cal would not consider it. However, Cal took on massive debt a few years ago. The stadium and athletic facilities renovation cost $440M and the plan to pay it off is not working very well. In 20 years there's going to be a day of reckoning when payments go up dramatically. If an offer like that exists at the right time, there would be tremendous pressure to take it.

Can we all just start referring to Rutgers as the Green Snakes but never explain it to anyone who missed this dumb thread?
