Completely change their color scheme and mascot. For our purposes we’ll say they’re now the Snakes, wear green helmets, and black jerseys. Which P5 schools would sign up for this? $500 million lump sum & tax free.

Rutgers?
Missouri?
Moo State?
Wake Forest?
Utah?
NC State?
Virginia Tech?
Pitt?

Rutgers seems like a prime candidate.

Their athletic department is in shambles and their main claim to fame is playing in the first college game ever (and losing IIRC).

Forgot about Rutgers, adding them to the list.

Utah?

Not a chance in hell.

They've been playing since 1892 and have proudly represented the Ute indigenous people of Utah.

Is Florida State going to change from the Seminoles to the Free Shoes.

Stanford could rebrand (and they have before) and no one would care or really notice. It's just Stanford. No one says, I'm a fan of those fighting Trees.

I thought about Stanford/Cal but thought it might be a bridge too far

I would say Vandy, but no one would notice either way. So take the cash.

Stanford is 4 years removed from a Pac 12 title and Rose Bowl victory
Along with a top 3 finish

They don’t need a rebrand

I think Stanford is the perfect candidate because their identity neutral.

They're just Stanford. They're sports androgyny. No one gives a shite about the Cardinal colors and the Tree is a long running joke.

As long as they kept the S on their unis and helmets they could flip to a new mascot and different colors.

Cal is a bridge too far. The Golden Bears and colors have a better history.

Stanford's claim to fame is Pop Warner coached there when they were the Indians.

They don't but they could.

I don't even know if they have a brand today.

Their brand is just winning NCAA titles nonstop.

As just Stanford. They're still Stanford with new colors and a new mascot.

Iowa State. Cyclones already sounds like a Hallmark movie team mascot.

But don’t teams rebrand to try and put some life in the program and win?
I don’t think Stanford needs that

They’re also a really smart school
If you’re talking fan support, nothing will change that unless they change admission standards

Yeah I wonder if the academics at Stanford or Cal would see it as sullying the university brand, that’s why I didn’t include them.

Michigan State

Even though they've got a long tradition and wouldn't seem to be a candidate, they wouldn't mind your chosen color scheme.

Plus Snakes and Spartans both start with an S, and they would absolutely love all that money so that they could now call the Wolverines Little Brother.

Both have very strong brands as they are outside of football

I was just saying, Stanford isn't the Crimson Tide or the Longhorns.

Or the worst rebranding idea, changing Penn State from their plain Jane unis.

Stanford could be anything new and they'd still be Stanford. I don't think anyone would be up in arms if they changed their unis and stupid mascot.

The only schools that qualify for this question are schools that nobody would care if they changed their current so-called brand.

And those are usually "smart" schools. Which is why Rutgers is also a good example. Scarlett Knights? Who is holding that dear to their hearts but alums?
