Andre Smith - after his true freshman year I thought in 4 years of growth he'd be an Anthony Munoz level LT in the NFL

Brian Orakpo - He's been really good, but not to the level I thought he'd be.

Matt Leinart - Couldn't have been more wrong, but I thought he was going to be the next big QB.

Lawrence Phillips - He was scum and dumber than a box of rocks but I just knew he was going to run over teams.

Ron Dayne - Thought he was the next Jerome Bettis, but faster. WRONG.

LaVar Arrington

Sure he made some Pro Bowls - but how ridiculously talented he flashed in college - made you think that was the next Ray Lewis/Butkus/Ham/Lambert.

Taylor Mays was, and is, an absolute freak. I wonder why he can't put it together and become the player he could be.

being a younger sports fan at the time. I wasn't as aware of his off the field troubles.

i just saw the guy that ran through defenses each year. i'll never forget that arse beating he, Tommie Frazier, and co. put on Florida down in the Fiesta Bowl that one year.

Yeah...it's weird.

But even following him at USC...he seemed always out of position and needed his freakness to catch up...and he seemed all about the big hit and rarely had a nose for the ball for interceptions.

I came to the conclusion that he was the perfect Safety ever built - but was the worst Safety in understanding how to play football.

If he had had just a half decent football sense/brain - Taylor Mays would be a household name.

If he had had Ronnie Lott's brain - Taylor Mays could have been GOAT.

This is real old school - but I watched Steve Emtman tear up CFB - far better than Nick Fairley or N. Suh ever did.

He wasn't Boz - he felt like the real deal because he was so damn quick off the ball.

Everyone thought the Saints were going to draft him had he come out early, but he surprisingly returned for another year. Man did we dodge a bullet.
