Not surprising about Walter Payton being nice to fans as he was considered an all-around gentleman.
Read the book Sweetness. Dude basically lived a double life, constantly cheating on his wife and living with mistress. Dude was a piece of shite.

The Punt God and Terrance Shannon Jr. stories show that even at the college level there are women (not all, or remotely close to all, of course) that will chase a dime, and this isn’t anywhere close to prime Kobe.
For sure…but wasn’t there a large settlement in the Kobe case?

When people are posting athletes, I wish they’d include the story…

Chipper came across as an absolute douche in his autobiography that came out about 10 years ago. Dude is in his 50s now and gives every indication that he's grown up and matured and is no longer a douche.
I covered MLB a fair bit in 20 years as a sports writer. With some notable exceptions ... like the great Braves' 1990s pitching staffs ... baseball players always struck me as being the dumbest and most juvenile pro athletes because so many of the greatest ones come right out of high school (or the Dominican jungles) right into the pros so they don't have a chance to grow up, then they get tossed into a sport that's like a traveling boys club for nine months from spring training to the post season.
When you get out of that environment, you tend to start growing up. You have to.

Yeah, Kirby Puckett's screwing around, I'm not saying that's acceptable but adultery is nothing really new. Him physically abusing women, hitting them, that's POS territory.
The late, great Mike Leach in his autobiography said there were two things that would get you immediately kicked off his football team, no discussion, no second chances, you're gone, period. The first was stealing, because he said that meant you couldn't be trusted. And the second was hitting a woman, because that proves you aren't a man.

Chipper and Taylor (current wife, no pics) are currently in the process of divorcing. He’s been married 3 or 4 times.

Joe D famously punched Billy Crystal in the stomach ... hard and with intent, for real, no work, knocked the breath out of Billy ... for forgetting to introduce him as "The Greatest Living Ball Player," which he never was for one second while he and Willie Mays were on the planet at the same time.

I agree…but Chipper had an affair that lasted over a year and produced a child. This isn’t a mistake. This isn’t boys being boys. That makes him a POS in my book.
Now, if you wanna argue that someone can grow up, mature, and maybe shed that image and label, that’s a different discussion.

Not sure I would go as far as call him a POS, but I was surprised that Phil Mickelson was loathed by just about every other tour pro.
There's a reason that they nicknamed him FIGJAM. The guy was not popular in the clubhouse.

Drew Brees is the heartbreaker.
Don't really think he falls in the POS category.

I think it was Dave Winfield who told a friend in the NBA " You don't know how lucky you are. You have nothing but guys who went to college over there".

Can't argue with you. I just saw somebody said he's involved in another divorce. Maybe he'll find someone someday and marry for love and not lust.

It took me back when I found out Greg Maddux is not the nerdy guy I had thought he was but the kind of guy who would sneak up beside you in the locker room and put his dick in your ear.

Yes I have heard stories about Maddux being the most disgusting unhygienic teammate many players had.
Also I don't think I have seen Ray Lewis on this list.

Anyone in this thread saying Drew Brees is a POS has had their brain broken. He has always, by all accounts, been a good dude. Geez.

Years of goodwill and literally helping to save the franchise, and city, are somehow overshadowed because he was pressured by his teammates to kneel.

Well you have realize that taking a position that is not conservative, can get you the bad mouth around here.

He’s definitely still a douche. Argues with people on Twitter all the time.
