To add insult to injury, Palmer not only lost a 7 shot lead over Casper in the 4th round at Olympic, but lost a two shot lead on the back nine in the 18 hole playoff the following day. Palmer shot 40 on the back nine in the playoff.

To be fair, when Palmer lost, he didn't have his collapse all over Twitter, Sportscenter, etc.
A little easier to move on when your quadruple bogey isn't a Vine.

That sounds pretty slow and painful in terms of majors in professional golf

Even with everything else, if Speith puts his tee shot on #12 on the green and two putts for a par he wins the golf tournament. The quad-bogey lost the tournament for him.

Everyone is making way to much out of this . He had one bad hole in s week he really wasn't at the top of his game. He was leading for three rounds with some of the worst winds they have had there.

I would put Rory's melt a couple years back at the Masters over it.

It wasn't as much melt as madness...because he had choices.
And he made the wrong ones, it such a bizarre fashion. That wasn't a choke but a suicide by choice. That was Tin Cup stubbornness.
Spieth just starting doing poorly after 9 and the 12th was the nail in the coffin.

His choice on 12 should have been one more club no matter what...hit it in the back bunker and take bogey. He wins if he does that.

But that is golf, especially at major courses.
It can turn perfect golfers into shambles.
Maybe that's the love affair with golf, nobody is immune from ruining their day...you can be so great and even such a steady great player like Spueth but always on the precipice.
I watched Norman live, this was worse because it happened so suddenly and so out of character.
This will stick for fans because it seemed so amateurish.
But that is golf, especially at major courses.

Jordans was not hard to watch. The guy had won before, he will win again. It just made us feel like he was human
I couldnt look at the TV during Van de Velde's. It was like watching someone end their career in a 10 min period. It hurt

As far as 12 goes, the hugest meltdown at that hole was Tom Weiskopf in 1980: he dumped five balls into the water and made a 13 on the 12th hole, the highest score relative to par in tournament history.

Jordan Spieth had one hell of a meltdown on 12, but I'm still not sure that was worse than Jean van de Velde on 18.

Na, It was Rory's first time contending and his lead was down to 1 at the turn. His was just a slow melt from an inexperienced guy.
Spieth know's how to close out majors and had just birdied 4 holes in a row to take a commanding 5 shot lead.
