Budy of mine from college was never a huge NBA fan but would go to Hornets/Pels games here and there, owned some gear, and definitely would claim them if asked. He got a job in Oklahoma City a few years ago and since then has jumped totally on board with the Thunder. Some of our mutual friends give him shite about it but I’m a bit torn on the issue.

Obviously he can do whatever the frick he wants but it begs the question when is giving someone shite for switching teams deserved and when is it not?

I mean if he lives there now, I have no issue with it. Not like he jumped on a bandwagon or anything.

doesnt seem like he was all that invested in the hornets and was only following them due to being able to go to games and watch them on a daily basis. him doing the same for the new place doesnt seem too wild. i wouldnt give him too much shite

I think it’s acceptable to switch fan bases when you live in that team’s city for a few years. I don’t make fun of a friend I grew up with in Louisiana being a Denver Nuggets fan after living in Denver for years.

Yeah that’s kind of where I am. Others say once you pick a team you’re stuck with them.

I can kind of see both sides. If he had been hardcore Hornets/Pels that would be one thing but he was fairly casual.

I grew up a Yankees fan but lived in Houston for 14 years and took a liking to the Astros back in 2007. They’re my second fav team now because I was exposed to them so frequently. Still a die hard Yanks fan tho.

you made it seem like he was a casual fan so its whatever in my opinion. but if they were a legitimate, follow the team day to day and watch every single game, kind of fan who switched i would give them shite over it

I don't see the big deal. If he lives in the city, he has ties to it and therefore the team. Now if he moved to Oklahoma City and over the last three years had magically become a Warriors fan, totally different story.

When I moved, I changed from being empathetic to the NBA(but I would have said the Hornets then Pels were my team) and MLB, but now consider myself a Red Sox and Celtics fan. I was already a huge Saints fan when I moved, and that will never change no matter where I live (frick the Pats).

Yeah I think that’s always okay. I don’t think I could ever stop being a niners/isles/pels fan, but I could see myself having a second team in a city I moved to.

This board gives way too much of a shite about who roots for what team. Like theres a fricking criteria or secret code word you have to know in order to be a true fan.

I mean it's not like I would care but I would definitely give my friend a hard time if he moved somewhere and just dropped the team that he apparently was a die hard fan of

If I'm giving my Ole Miss friend a hard time because his football team has been terrible for the last half-century and then he announces that he's all of a sudden a Clemson fan, that changes the dynamic of the friendship.

Not that I have any friends, but hypothetically speaking, the friendship would change.
