you support the team where you live, if he moved there then its normal and expected he switched to the local fan base.

some people move but stay loyal to their old teams and thats ok but it is unusual whereas switching to the local team is more expected then to be a fan of an out of state team

I mean, you could say the same thing about a 49ers "fan" from LA and TX.

This is the correct answer.

ETA: It does show he was never as committed to the Hornets/Pels as y'all may have thought, but that's not totally unusual.

Similar situation is a lot of my Oklahoma friends were huge Mavs fans until the Thunder moved there.

I was an L.A. Rams fan growing up, but I dropped the team like a hot rock when they moved to St. Louis. I supported the Chargers after that, as they were the next closest team to me, and I always kinda liked them anyway.

When the Rams came back to L.A. I supported them again, and even went to their first game back at the L.A. Coliseum. I still pull for the Chargers too, but honestly if I were a resident of San Diego I'm not so sure I would.

Brother and I used to be diehard Philly fans. I moved away a long time ago and adopted the Saints. He moved to DC but is still a diehard Iggles fan. However, he switched from the Phillies to the Nationals and justified it because when he started rooting, the Nationals were a new franchise.
