Well, what about taunting penalty? Safety isn’t an issue with it so why automatic 1st down?

The reasoning is stupid because the ref is X(illegal hand to the face) prevents Y(1st down)from happening. That’s BS logic since you see teams get the 1st down even with the infraction.

The penalties are designed to drastically help the offense bc they care about scoring more than anything else. The NFL wants every game to be 45-42.

No. The NFL just cares about making money. More people watching the games equals more money. The fans are the ones who want the high scoring and 45-42.

If NFL could make more money with a 3-0 games, they would make it a defense game.

I feel like this penalty basically exists to bail out Aaron Rodgers and extend Green Bay drives

You'll have to excuse Les. Sometimes you need to really spell things out for him or he gets left behind.

Yet somehow CFB works just fine...

There’s still an automatic first down attached in college.

Take your contrarian BS to another thread.

Why should it be?

It's a safety thing.

Apparently safety doesn't matter to Les. He just likes to pay lip service to it.

If this rule didn’t apply, DB’s would just grab WR’s off the line if they got beat

I would venture to guess that if it were a 10 or 15 yd penalty it would result in a 1st down 90%+ of the time.

Spot foul for pass interference is the most asinine rule in the NFL.

Penalties should be the same assessment whether on the offense or defense.

Holding should be a 5 yd penalty.

Random stat for the day:

2 out of the first 4 posts in this thread have a perfect upvote/downvote ratio of 28/3

The falcons blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl

Disclaimer: Baylor also recently blew a 28-3 lead, but at least it wasn’t in the biggest game ever in the school’s history

I mean, you could argue Saturday was the biggest game in Baylor's history, no?

It's not contrarian, I just misunderstood your reply.

I thought you were arguing that PI spot fouls keep defensive holding from being rampant. 35 yard PI penalties in the NFL are ridiculous at times. CFB obviously has it capped at 15 yards without experiencing a ton of strategic holding.

A regular season game in November? Nah

I’m sure you could argue it, but I’m not gonna go there mainly because IDGAF about Baylor enough to know the answer lol

That could be called on on every play on either team.
Seems like the refs wait to see the outcome of the play before they throw the flag.
The officials definitely can determine the outcome of the game.
But they are just following orders.
