And it's not just that they've made it longer, but if you're not a world class short game guy you're looking at 150 easily.

Augusta's greens have emasculated far better golfers than me.

There are a few people here that can break 100. Where is zeedustin when we need him

In all honestly, I think a scratch golfer could shoot in the low to mid 80s in tournament conditions. From tee to green it is easier than a regualr US Open layout. The greens are very tricky, but a scratch golfer can get it around there in a decent number.

Some of those par 4 greens are smaller than a postage stamp. I don't see how you could land something lower than a 9 iron and make it stick on some of those greens.

My only saving grace is that I hit my iron shots really high and it helps me control the distance better than some on my level of golf but I think the added pressure of the cameras and crowds would cancel that out.

It was really funny a few years ago when they lengthened Augusta to me because people like Barkley were saying they were trying to Tiger-proof the course due to racism. To the contrary, the essentially made Tiger one of the few that can win there.

Tell that to Mike Wier and Trevor Immelman.

Yeah, I can't affort to hit my shite and expect to do well...

Oh, man, that was worse than my usual bad jokes and puns...

OK. I am just telling you like it is. I have played there recently and seen the changes. You have an article from a guy who is a scratch player (ok maybe a little better) that is an average putter (I have played with Wilson) and he has shot from 73 to 81.

Why is my statement that a sctrach golfer can get it around in the mid 80s so hard to buy into?

golf is golf. The conditions are tougher there obviously, but if you hit good shots and don't try to do stupid stuff that you aren't capable of I could see how a scratch golfer could keep it low 70's.

I agree, I can see a scratch golfer keeping it under 85 or 80 on a regular basis. I have never walked that course, so I can only go by TV and video games on how difficult the course is.

What time does the Par 3 contest start BTW.

"Can", maybe. "Can do so consistently and be competitive on the tour?" Not so much, IMO.
