I've only known WWE but through YouTube discovered MidAtlantic Wrestling.

Classic ECW in the 90s was insane.

Mid-South Wrestling and Georgia Championship Wrestling
That's what was on TV in LA back in the 80s when I was a kid. I also liked the Dallas-based wrestling show that I would watch when I would visit my grandparents. I stopped watching it regularly around 10 when my older cousins made fun of me for watching it and filled me in on the fact that it was staged/fixed/fake.
AWA was on ESPN but none of the wrestlers had any real gimmicks and just looked like a bunch of random dudes in tights with no interesting characters or backstories.

I started out with Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling (1964–1972) in the late 60s /early 70s. That became NWA Tri-State (1972–1979) and covered Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Oklahoma before Bill Watts bought the territory in 1979 and rebranded it into Mid-South Wrestling.
One of the first wrestlers I recall was Grizzly Smith. His real name was Aurelian Jake Smith, Sr. His son, Aurelian Jake Smith, Jr. was a wrestler from your era (I assume) and went by the name Jake "the Snake" Roberts.

Mid-South when it was just in LA and MS. Or at least I thought that was the territory because the graphic only had those 2 states in the intro and I think it's weekly show came from some gym in north La.

Mid South. Almost all of the weekly tv episodes are on YouTube. Still holds up so well. JYD, Midnight Express, Cornette..great stuff. The Dibiase-Flair double turn from ‘85 I think is an outstanding hour of television.

Could go on forever, they were absolutely stacked and way better than WWF at the time. Too bad their management was a disaster until Bischoff took the reigns

When I was in middle school, the Superstation, which was then WTBS channel 17 over the air out of Atlanta, had NWA on Saturday mornings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday evenings. The NWA eventually became WCW. It was my favorite.
WWF, later WWE, was on one of the other ATL stations midday on Saturdays.
The Smorgasbord was channel 36, an independent station. It would start with "wrasslin'" on Saturday evenings and go until 0300, showing various promotions, among them Mid-South and AWA.
