None of them were. As great as Mack is, I guarantee you that the Bears wouldn't do that over again if they had a mulligan. Teams absolutely crush their ability to acquire cheap talent by going all in on a single player like that.

IMO, the only types of players that would be worth 2 first round picks would be proven franchise QBs. Like if a 27-28 year old Brady/Manning demanded a trade. No other player at any position is worth that. No other player can impact a game more by himself than 2 first round picks, especially when you're talking about getting said 1st round picks at a premium rookie price.

Depends on who was available with the picks and who would've been doing the drafting.

When you have to pay a massive contract on top of making the trade it becomes nearly impossible to justify giving up two firsts for anybody other than a franchise QB

Is the only one who was twice traded for two first rounders?

The two first round picks the Bears gave up for Mack were Josh Jacobs and Damon Arnette. Mack is easily worth that.

I don't see why?

If the two 1sts aren't nearly good enough to get a massive contract, then I don't see how that team that got the 1sts won the trade if they didn't get very good players?

If even just 1 of the 2 1sts turns out to be elite then you have to pay them the same massive contract.

Not all 1st round picks are created equal. Top 10 has much more value and odds of success than the bottom third of Round 1. Good teams like the Seahawks trading 1st rounders isn't a huge impact, but they are likely picking 20+ bc they make the playoffs almost every year.

If you normalize and it just say that a Rd 1 pick = 16th overall, it's about a 50/50 proposition of success.

Is this thread about from 2000 on or what?????? Because if it’s from before, then Barry Sanders would have been worth a 1st and 2nd in that year, plus a 1st the year after that.

Mack and Ramsey.

Tunsil is a top 5 right tackle, but right tackles aren’t as valuable as left. Plus they had to sign him to a completely new contract.

Generally speaking, if you are trading 2 1st rounders for a player, he is in the top 3-5 at his position, he has at least 2 years left on a deal that is paying him below market value, and you are a playoff team before you add the guy.

Picks are a crapshoot

The raiders turned Khalil Mack into Josh Jacobs and Damon Arnette.

Jacobs is great but I would take Mack over him and a CB (who I think will be a bust)

In a vacuum, Mack is better than both of them. But the Raiders are paying those two guys combined less than half of Mack's salary next season. They have cheaper players who still might be good and will be able to upgrade other pieces of their team.

I think Arnette will be solid. I would have much rather seen the Falcons reach for him than reach for AJ Terrell.

I would much, much rather have Jacobs and Arnette at their salaries for the next four years than Mack at his salary.
