The messy divorce with Jimbo, 1.5 seasons and out for Taggart who they agreed to pay $20 million to frick off (it will be less now that Taggart took the FAU job), then I see this article about their financial problems on my newsfeed. Something seems very, very wrong. Good news for UF and Clemson I guess LINK

Nothing. Taggart was just a bad hire. It happens.

Basically everything you just said. Lazy recruiting, culture issues, and bad coaching/player development set the program back. They are Florida State though so Norvell should be able to get them back to prominence pretty fast

What is wrong with FUBU? Haven’t seen that brand in years.

Their facilities are garbage from what I understand, so that doesn't help.

This seems a little deeper

To make up for recent financial shortcomings in FSU athletics, the Seminole Boosters have been liquidating assets. How long will this last and which property is up for sale?

What is happening with the 'Noles' 2020 non-conference football schedule, what are the financial implications if FSU doesn't play, and how much money could be lost?

Attendance is way down and donors withheld money because of the Taggart hire.

Part of the problem with attendance was day games and Jimbo wanting to play crappy Non Conference teams.

Supposedly one of the reasons Jumbo left was he got tired of constantly having to fight for facilities upgrades & assistant coaches pay. It supposedly got very bitter after the program letdown post NC between Jimbo & the administration. Attendance dropped drastically as well.

When 5 of your 6 division opponents are NC State, Wake, BC, Louisville, and Syracuse, attendance will always drop off a lot when the team isn’t good. The ACC in its current format is not long for this world.

Once live sports move to streaming, Florida State will not be in a conference with northeastern teams.

Goddamn. I mean all FSU fans say Taggart inherited a dumpster fire and he had a track record of rebuilding programs... That seems kind of shitty

It’s not so much the quality of program as it’s the geography. I work with 3 Ole Miss grads. I don’t care if Alabama is 2-5, I’m going to Alabama-Ole Miss because I can go with friends and because if Bama loses that game, the office will be hellish.

No one in Tallahassee gives a rats arse about Syracuse because they don’t or rarely interact with anyone who went there. If I were a Florida State fan living in Florida (the majority of people who go to games), I’d be more excited to play USF or UCF than Syracuse.

When the team is bad, and you don’t play opponents in your area, it’s hard to fire up a fanbase to attend games.

Speaking of that, I just rewatched some of that much-hyped FSU-Bama opener from 2017. I had forgotten it was only 10-7 before FSU special teams just imploded. Overall I felt like they had been steadily declining since 2013 though

They exposed many of the problems we had with Jalen leading the offense as LSU had done the prior season. Lots of pressure and mixed coverages and making sure to take away the first read.

People talk about money and facilities but Jimbo had a top 5 class almost every year. Jimbo quit on FSU and more so Tallahassee after the Candi thing. That combined with horrible assistant coaching hires and a ton of recruiting busts led to 2017. Taggart has no business being a HC of any football program so that happened. As bad as things were the last 3 years we still were able to stay in the top 25 in recruiting, not FSU standards but it leaves Norvell with some talent. Improvement on the field will lead to better recruiting, and all of that will lead to better finances/attendance/donations. It'll take a few years but this downturn won't last

Sounds like your fanbase is just shitty

FSU fans everywhere blame this on “Jimbo quit” but a real power program doesn’t just roll up because a coach goes downhill.

Taggart rebuilt USF and seemed to turn around Oregon. Idk maybe a little patience would've been better than eating $20 million if budget was already an issue? Hope it works out for y'all though, I hate UF and Clemson is starting to get annoying

It seemed like things were going well until Jimbo's marriage fell apart because he wife was cheating on him. Didn't that story break around 2016 when the wheels started to come off for FSU?
