The top reported qb contract in college thus far is the Sorsby 5 mil. NFL qbs make 50 mil. Not in this realm will college players make more than their NFL counterparts.
Absolutely, but there’s 32 nfl teams with 55 player rosters, and many of those qbs making $40+ mil are 5-15 year league vets. There’s only so many qb jobs.
The reason these NIL deals are inflated is because there’s 120+ ncaa football teams AND they have 85 players each.
I do think rare guys like Arch Manning can make a lot, but the issue is the 25-75+ guys that think they should be getting $2-3 mil when in reality most are worth closer to $200k. There’s multiple teams paying ‘starter’ money to these portal guys .
It’s just not sustainable.
I do think something will push it over the edge and a major change will happen. I don’t know what that will be. It’s just not currently sustainable.

Ncaa has next to zero power
They’d get slapped down immediately.
These guys think because the NCAA spent 50 years doing whatever the hell they wanted, they can continue to do so.
That’s exactly how we got here, the administrators refused to act reasonably and in good faith. They have no one to blame but themselves

NFL Rookie pay scale increases?

If you can make millions four, five, six years in college, I don't see where flaming out in the NFL after three years on a rookie contract is a better financial option.

In 2024 Brock Purdy led his team to the Super Bowl and over a dozen college players made more than him.

True. But then the 49ers gave Brock $250MM.
None of those guys are going to get close to that over their entire college careers and all of them are almost certainly going to earn more than $5MM/year on their rookie contracts.
I’m just not seeing a scenario where it pays to hang around in college unless you’re likely to be a roster bubble/practice squad guy. Those guys will (and should) be fighting for every year of eligibility they can get.

The NFL has been a second contract league for forever… and purdy’s second contract was $250 mm
