It wasn’t that long ago they were a legit high level program. I know they were Cinderella’s and got destroyed but shite they made the national championship just two years ago.

Now they’re getting whipped by SMU 66-35 and look like trash.

This - they are good on like a 4 year cycle when they get a senior laden team who have all started for 2-3 years.

They went 5-7, 6-4, 5-7 in the three years before the NCG appearance. Then they went 5-7 last year. And they will probably go 5-7 or 6-6 this year

This is who they’ve been recently aside from the one fluke year

Dykes ran out of Gary Patterson’s recruits.

USF got to #2 and Rutgers got to #7 in the AP once.

TCU sustained success for a bit obviously but they’re not a powerhouse and never could stay there long.

The only time that was ever the case was under Gary Patterson in his prime and they were in the MwC. They had a badass team in 2014 shortly after joining the Big 12, but they had been dormant until that 2022 season. Even that 2022 season they eked out about every win they had, they weren't some dominant machine like the 2014 or even the 2011 TCU teams were.

Also wasn't Lincoln Riley's brother the OC and left for Clemson after that? Plus they lost their QB and some other pieces.

no been watching Texas football for 50 years from the glory days of the Southwest Conference to the mess that was after that
Went to high school with guys that were around when SMU made its rise so anyway I mean I've heard all the stories of new cars and I saw friends with new cars that wasn't a big deal not that that makes me special that's just it was everywhere

of Texas schools UT has had the most success and it's been a few high points with a lot of low points next to that I think TCU's been the most consistently impressive program maybe Baylor

They had some really good years from 14-17 when Patterson settled into the Big 12 but I think a lot of people forget how much they had tailed off when they fired him. The above comment about “running out of Patterson’s recruits” is comical
