The athletes started to realize they could go to a real school and still make it to the next level. And possibly winning one state title would mean more at a real school than winning four in a row at a factory.

And it's not just Calvary. It's no coincidence that programs like Captain Shreve and Huntington who were terrible in the past are getting better.

loss, not lost.
You did it twice, so that tells me you don't know any better.

Calvary is playing 1A. Evangel was playing 5A and winning championships…not quite the same.

This is true. Their student population has shrunk, and more money has flooded to Calvary. Like previous posters said, public schools in the area have gotten a lot of that talent back as well. Most of the boosters who paid those scholarships aren't there anymore.
All things considered, Evangel's campus is pretty crappy looking, football field is not well kept up, and it isn't a nice place anymore. I've heard they have 2-3 years left to stay open if they can't get an influx of capital.

Who cares? This is not an English paper. The context of the message is not changed either way.

At one point in the mid to late 90’s I wanna say they were ranked number 2 in the nation only behind De Lasalle (Pittsburgh, CA) who won like 189 games in a row or something like that.

Evangel won the national championship in 1999

Calvary was too once before…actually closed down the high school in the late 80’s. Evangel benefited from the closures of First Baptist, Calvary, Shreveport Country Day.

Byrd, Shreve (gaining momentum last couple of years) and Calvary. These rosters are loaded with the kids that would once be in the two-deep at Evangel.

I wonder how it’s affected them to play an extra year in class 4A when we delayed reclassification due to hurricanes and Covid… they were probably hoping to go back to 1A or 2A and win some games again but have to wait a year

I remember I went up to Evangel to see them and Rummel play in the semis in like 02/03?

They had legit 20 year old dudes on that team.

I was wondering what the hell is wrong with them if St. Ed’s hung with them most of the game.
