I remember I went up to Evangel to see them and Rummel play in the semis in like 02/03?

They had legit 20 year old dudes on that team.

Saw them one of those years 02/03 up close at the dome. Those were no high schoolers.

Heard an interview with Dunn a while back. He talked about how the first thing he did when he took over was to start painting/ keeping up the field and to upgrade uniforms.
That and they played a fun style of ball that nobody else was playing made kids want to go there. Add in great relationships with rich people and boom you have a factory.
I understand that they pissed off a lot of those influential families and they obviously pizzas off the LHSAA who literally ruined high school football in the state for the near sole purpose of taking them down.

Rummel led at the half the year before. That was a damn good rummel team & they just wiped the floor with them in the 2nd half

This is true. Their student population has shrunk, and more money has flooded to Calvary. Like previous posters said, public schools in the area have gotten a lot of that talent back as well. Most of the boosters who paid those scholarships aren't there anymore.
All things considered, Evangel's campus is pretty crappy looking, football field is not well kept up, and it isn't a nice place anymore. I've heard they have 2-3 years left to stay open if they can't get an influx of capital.

That's precisely what happened to Redemptorist in Baton Rouge. Population shifted after Zachary/Central broke away from EBR. RHS was too deep in NBR territory to pull from South BR. School hemoragged money and couldn't keep up staff/facilities to the point they were too far gone

10 yard shotgun formation. If I remember Evangel just let guys run free but it didn't matter because whoever was QB had cannon and got rid of it before anyone got close.

They got to the top and had the same realization Craig Kilborn did.
