Are they any left? Is it a rule that says you have to wear a shoe now?

I remember the NFL had barefoot kickers and punters back in the day.

LA Rams had one

Tony Franklin was a barefooter from UF who kicked a 59-yarder barefoot for the Eagles on MNF...I think.

I forgot all about the barefoot kickers. I never understood why they did that and thought it had to hurt

I remember trying in elementary school at recess. I could punt barefoot without it hurting, but place kicking was a bitch.

Most states now use NFHS rules for high school football, which prohibits this. That’s my take anyway. Texas and one other state (Mass I think?) use modified NCAA rules, so it may be legal there. Shoes are also much better as someone said.

Someone needs to go full Tom Dempsey and amputate half their foot to improve their kicking

Modern soccer cleats are so thin and light, they feel like almost nothing.

The NFL(Tex Schramm) put a rule in just for that.

If you do that, you have to either kick barefoot or with a normal shaped shoe.

I remember my grandfather taking me to a game in the Super Dome when he kicked. Thanks for the pic, was wondering if he did it to kick soccer style or not. Guess not.
