The rats will leave the ship before that deal gets signed.

And the more teams that bolt the less a deal will be worth.

Stanford and Cal will finally get their wish and do nothing but smell their own Bolshevek flatulence until their athletic departments are flat broke and in the NAIA, just like University of Chicago did 80 yrs ago.

U of Chicago still got the benefits of being in the Big Ten without continuing their athletic programs. By which I mean the research consortium.

If Cal were to stop playing football, would the rest of FBS notice?

And nobody will cry but tears of joy.

frick arrogant Stanford. They will probably cry...hard to win the former Sears Cup every year as an Independent.

Cal...they're so far gone...they'd probably just cancel sports but for Men's Rugby and 100 women's sports.

Cal stopped playing football a while ago. This would just be a formality

They dropped Rugby over a decade ago.

TV/Media is everything in CFB now. There will be four easily packaged super sellable leagues. A mega NFL package, complete with prepackaged development system ‘em at the lower levels where players can transfer if deemed good enough by a bigger school in the big league. There really aren’t that many entities. Big TV and Conference heads working together to “make it better”

I didn’t think it was possible for any major conference to have a commissioner worse than Larry Scott.

I was wrong

Huh? Cal was in the national championship game this year.

https://www.si.com/college/cal/other-sports/cal-rugby-loses-to-navy

quote:

Cal let an early 15-0 lead slip away and let its chance for a 29th national rugby title slip away as well as the Bears lost to No. 1-ranked, unbeaten Navy 28-22 on Saturday in the national title match of the D1A National Collegiate Championships in Houston Texas.

Cal has won 28 national championships in rugby 15s, although two of those were Varsity Cup national titles, and 26 were D1A National Collegiate Championships titles.

Cal sucks at the money sports, but is good at Olympic sports, and recently produced Max Homa (#7) and Collin Morikawa (#23) in golf.

The group of five/six is going to be so far left in the dust in this new era it might as well be a completely different classification.

That’s long overdue, need a split like when they made D1-A and D1-AA.

I presume they get San Diego St and Boise St. But that doesn't even come close to filling the gap left by the schools they lost. And it really shouldn't be taking this long to get the TV contracts finalized. I suspect they'll sign some crappy deal with Apple or Amazon that no one will watch.

SDSU, SJSU, Utah St. (if Utah stays), UNLV and maybe New Mexico?

ETA: Boise State is a good start

Chicago plays in Division III and they are far from flat broke as an institution. They made their decision in the 1940s which has absolutely no bearing on today. Chicago is doing fine.
