its an interesting thread SP, and I understood why you used Vandy and NW (private schools and lower tier within respective conferences) So you make a very good point.

I would agree with those that have said the exclusivity and high profile aspects of the NBC contract is what ND used to rationalize their continued independent status.

I bet they are gambling that they return to powerhouse status and that will be enough. I don't thing they can do it and eventually the $$ will force them to join the big 10(12).

If will be interesting to follow the fall out. The big east would move to replace ND ( maybe memphis, depending on what happens with their mens BB program) the PAC 10 would seek to expand ( utah and BYU my guess or MAYBE Colorado. The fallout to affected conference that lose teams would result in a mad dash.

True. Nor does it mention Ohio State, so no reason to come in and bash.

They've already said they don't want to because the media markets that are readily avalible (Boise and Salt Lake City) aren't big enough. Kind of sucks because adding two teams would be good for the conference as a whole

I would like to know the Big East vs Big10 basketball TV contract situation is like, because obviously this would be a deciding factor too.

yeah,, BUT

if the big 10 expands and ads a conference championship game ,,which would be inevitable. I think the PAC 10 would be "forced" to follow
after all when all is said and done its about $$$$

no one can predict what will happen and when,, but you can predict $$$ will be THE factor in what happens and when.

And that why I included Colorado as a maybe( Denver)

then the Big 12 would grab TCU

as for who the PAC -10 12 would grab,, I didn't include Boise because small media and BYU /Utah are obvious and I bet the State Gov would demand the BOTH go.

I don't know if there are enough good teams left for the Big East to get to 12 if ND goes to the Big10

Cincy wasn't good when they took them. USF wasn't good when they took them. UConn was 1-AA...

truthfully IMO big east is a non factor in college football,

SEC, BIG 12,PAC 10,BIG 10, even ACC are better top to bottom,, but regardless if ND makes the move to the big 10 and the PAC 10 expands and add conference championship games,, the bug would follow

Again after all is said and done its about the $$$$$$

the conference championships games MIGHT put the wrong team in the BCS bowl,,but they make $$ and don't change the $$$ made from the BSC bowl

Exactly, and they STILL need 4 more teams

Who's even in that region? Maybe East Carolina, Memphis, Marshall? Still need someone else. Makes more sense for BC to switch back to the Big East and for the ACC to take South Florida. The ACC is way too long right now. Would make more sense for the conferences to realign, IMO

Whoever came up with the "coastal" and "inland" division idea instead of north and south has hopefully been murdered by now.

Agreed. Plus one of the reasons no one was at the ACC title game was why would people from BC and VT want to drive to fricking northern Florida? At least if the game was in Charlotte people could have traveled.

That conference is hurting right now to be sure. Once DickRod left WVU and Petrino left Louisville it all fell apart...and I don't see it getting better TBH.

right,, which gets us to another topic a WAYYYY off the OP thread

I think we all agree the SEC,BIG12,Pac 10(12),Big 10,11(12) and ACC would be legit IF and after expansion comparable to what Ive mentioned previously.

the big east?? not so much. Meanwhile some decent programs out WEST will need somewhere to go

TCU, BOISE St. UTAH, BYU,Fresno St. ( any of those not gobbled up by expansion/realighnment)

you cant have a conference that goes from West Virginia to Fresno,, to build a 6th legit BCS conference

so what to do?

JUST drop the big east and add a extra at large is the easiest,, but improbable when you consider some heavy hitters in the big east.

I think it would be interesting if you had the big 5. Then 2 at large picks that would be required to come from the remaining Big east Mountain West, C-USA,MAC, etc conferences.
say the two top Ranked from those conferences.

Then the remaining at large teams to come from wherever, similar to what it is now.

and of course if all this did happen ( not holding my breath) they would be an additional BCS game ( as has been discussed) prolly the Cotton Bowl played at jerry's new digs.

IF that occurred then there would be room for 10 teams meaning the BIG BCS conferences dont lose any representation.

the conferences will choose to have a conference championship game because of the $$$. and if a top 4 ranked team loses in that game,, then there is still room for them in a BCS game.

until the playoffs of course
