What an 8 Team Playoff would look like using 11/12/19 CFP Ranking

I understand that the final Top 8 will look different than this Top 8, but wouldn't you love to see this playoff at the end of the year?

There are some great match ups here. I know it's likely that at the end of the year, there’s only going to be 1 Pac-12 team, likely at most 2 SEC teams, and the seeding will change, but this week's 8 team bracket bracket is still an improvement over the 4 team playoff.

Having the 1st round games at the home stadiums of the Top 4 would be a huge reward for making the Top 4. These are match ups rarely seen at most home stadiums.

It's interesting that the left half of the bracket is almost an SEC only invitational.

Can you imagine an undefeated Big12 team missing out on a 8 team playoff? Yeah right! That's all you need to know about these rankings. Utah would be gone.

Giving Bama, UGA, and Utah an equal seat at the table with LSU, OSU, and Clemson is ridiculous. CFB is about rewarding elite regular seasons, not meandering through a weak schedule, slip up, and still get a crack at a championship.

That's irrelevant. If the season ended today, they would change their own votes to include an undefeated Baylor with no other games played. That's what makes this all a sham.

Why do we need an 8 team playoff when LSU-UGA, Utah-Ore, MN-OSU would play each other in conference championship games?

I like a six team playoff with the top two seeds getting a bye. Rewards the regular season and expands the field.

My tweak to an eight team bracket would be that the top 4 seeds go only to conference champs.

So that means Georgia wouldn't get the 4 slot assuming LSU wins out.

This also rewards being a conference champ.

As I said before, the final Top 8 will look different than this Top 8. At the end of the year, there’s only going to be 1 Pac-12 team, and probably one less SEC teams, so obviously a Big-12 winner would take one of those spots, and who knows, maybe Auburn would beat and replace Bama and Penn State could be in.

It's just a snapshot in the moment like everything done with present rankings.

The point is, the final year end 8 team playoff will be a better bracket than a 4 team playoff. The winner will have to win it all on the field, not partially in the committee room, like now.

Not really.

By the end of the year, and really right now, it's LSU and Ohio St. The rest are the rest.

The old BCS would have worked just as well. Really only two teams worthy this season.

Only problem with this is you need a Big 12 Champ.

Would have to be five P5 champs and three at large.

Eliminate conference championship games.

Exactly.

That would mean that Georgia would have to play at Oregon and Bama would have to play at Clemson.

Sign me up.

Add Clemson and you got it.

#1 seed will have an advantage this year unless Bama somehow comes back from the dead.

Only issue with this bracket is the Big 12 is left out. Nobody, and I mean nobody, in CFB would allow that to happen. It would have to include everyone in P5.

You'll get that if OU wins out. The SEC, Pac and B1G teams have at least one loss coming to three teams.

I love 8 as the playoff. It's a manageable number, and you get a lot of compelling matchups in the first round.
