re: What am I not understanding about the Trever Bauer incident?

I'd take Trever Bauer being so competitive that he does this in a relatively meaningless July game over Manny Machado not hustling on any ground ball in the NLCS or WS any day.
Are you taking the position of Manny Machado not being seen as a gigantic a-hole and liability? He's been seen as, and treated as, a thug piece of shite for a while, and that was before he ruined the backend of Dustin Pedroia's career.

Seriously, this dude has been a bitch since his UCLA day’s with Gerrit Cole; whom called him out for his shite in college. I’m glad he isn’t with the Astros.

I'm hoping this comes back to bite Cleveland bigly.
This incident isn’t the reason they traded him.

Its relevant bc (IMO) hes receiving unduly harsh treatment from the media in part bc of his support for the President.
I don't know about that. You brought up Boogie, he gets called a head case all the time.
Every one of the incidents you listed, the player usually gets some negative press. A pitcher launching one over the centerfield wall is pretty rare in baseball, so people are going to notice.

Called him out for his shite? WTF are you talking about? Cole told him he had no future in baseball and that he had poor work ethic. Trevor Bauer went on to win the Golden Spikes award and was a better pitcher at UCLA than Cole despite not being a very gifted athlete precisely because of his hard/smart work.

Same here.
I think it says a lot about Tyler Bauer that the Indians who are only 3 games back in the division and are 2 games up on the first WC spot were willing to trade away one of their best starting pitchers. A starting pitcher that still has a year of control at that. They obviously feel that the team is better off without this guy around regardless of his ability on the mound.

They traded him because they are cheap and don’t want to pay him $20 million again next season.

Exactly. Same reason they didn’t offer Michael Brantley a qualifying offer.

It was childish but I like the competitive fire he has. He was having insanely bad luck that inning. Centerfielder lost a fly ball in the sun. A swinging bunt single. A bloop single. A couple of grounders with eyes. He was pitching fairly well and still gave up 5 runs that inning.

Exactly. He was gone regardless of the ball throwing incident.
I actually thing the Indians made out well. They get Franmil, Logan Allen, 2 others, and a big bat in Puig to help out for a postseason run this year. We will see how that works out.

Bauer is a weird dude and I'm sure his unwillingness to negotiate until his deal is up makes it hard to know where you stand with him from an organizational standpoint.
He likely cost himself a lot of money by passing on signing a longer term deal.
Will be interesting to see how his free agency plays out once his deal is up.

Then hold him for a post-season run and trade him in the off-season.
They obviously didn't trade him because of this ball heaving incident as they had been shopping him around prior to it, but I think his general attitude in part led to him being on the block now rather than during the winter meetings.

I don’t think so

If some combination of Kluber, Carrasco and Salazar comes back healthy (maybe a big if), OF is a much bigger need for this year’s Indians team than SP.

I haven’t seen any complaints about Bauer’s attitude since he’s been in Cleveland. Certainly not in the last 3.5 years.

This deal was probably too good to pass up. It might not have been available later. Look how much better this deal is than what the blue jays just got for Stroman.

He is eligible to become a free agent at the end of the year. He has said he only wants 1 year deals. This is not something that Cleveland can afford.

Your thoughts on Roberto Osuna?
Posted on 7/31/19 at 9:03 am to SirWinston
quote:No they don’t. A player kicking the ball into the stands is an extremely rare occasion.
An NBA player gets a tech or gets ejected for throwing / kicking a ball into the stands in frustration at least once every 2 weeks.

+1
Bieber is morphing into a top rotation guy. I like Bauer...a lot. But the Indians are small market. As long as the current ownership group is in place, they will remain as such.
It was no surprise Brantley went to Houston. It’s no surprise Bauer is gone now. Hell, looking at the lineup makes me wonder how they have a playoff-worthy record right now.

No hes not. He has another year of control and will go to arbitration this year.
