An actual sportswriter wrote this 3,000 word melt about kids and sportsmanzhip with full pearl-clutching and hand-wringing to go along with this money quote...

quote:

A 28-year-old big-league pitcher and one-time Cy Young Award candidate is still acting in such a manner -- someone at some level has failed, be it Bauer himself or those surrounding him

What am I missing? Why is Bauer being vilified for showing some emotion in such a harmless manner?

Deadspin and other outlets have hated T-Bow ever since he declared himself MAGA as frick, but to see the piling on that's happened over such a harmless incident (that I'd actually consider POSITIVE as far as how competitive he is) is absolutely ludicrous.

I'm hoping this comes back to bite Cleveland bigly.

Acting like a spoiled brat doesnt make him look a competitor, it makes him look like a little bitch.

It’s very silly to get upset over what he did

A grown man throwing a temper tantrum in a professional setting. It's the same thing as Odell Beckham kicking the net, except Beckham didn't kick the net on the 50 yard line

It's not that big of a deal. An NBA player gets a tech or gets ejected for throwing / kicking a ball into the stands in frustration at least once every 2 weeks.

Why is T-Bow throwing a ball over the outfield fence any worse than Cousins kicking a basketball or Puig breaking a bat over his knee or Djokivic smashing a tennis racket?

In a vacuum, what he did was not so bad, but when you look at the big picture and see what a hothead he has been and what a pain in the arse he is overall, then it paints a better picture.

The other person who has launched a missile into the stands in center field is Rob Dibble. Same deal for him. He was a general a-hole.

Every one of these things is childish and unnecessary

I'd take Trever Bauer being so competitive that he does this in a relatively meaningless July game over Manny Machado not hustling on any ground ball in the NLCS or WS any day.

Manny cost his team baserunners on at least two occasions in key championship spots bc he didn't GAF in the biggest at bats of his career. That's a far worse crime if you know much about baseball.

Also - the same sportswriters crushing Bauer were defending Fat Serena's truly disgusting / bullying acts in a much bigger spot at the Australian Open. Lot of hypocrisy going on. I suspect its political with many of these personalities in the sports media.

Its relevant bc (IMO) hes receiving unduly harsh treatment from the media in part bc of his support for the President.

First thing you're not understanding is how to spell his first name.

What does one have to do with the other?

The act really isnt that big of a deal, he shouldnt be suspended or anything like that, but it still makes him look like a little bitch. And dude has a track record of acting that way.

That along with some of his tweets are a big reason why he’s hated by a bunch of people. That’s why everyone is piling on, because they already didn’t like him.

Throwing the ball was no big deal, similar stuff has been done before and nobody really cared.

When discussing the trash "journalists" we have in 2019, unfortunately the political affiliation of the subject of the "journalists" story is a critical component.

If it was a one off incident, I don't think people would really care, but apparently he's an a-hole without the goofy persona.
