It’s straight out pay for play. The facade is a complete joke.
Nobody cares what some 20 year old is endorsing.

Bryce Young is making less than Jamarcus because of Jamarcus. Purdy was a 7th round pick, 7th round picks never made much, most of them from even his draft a year ago have probably been cut or at best are in taxi squad

Prior to the Russell debacle, rookies could renegotiate after their first year, which Purdy obviously would have done. The current CBA doesn't allow for that. A rookie contract can't be renegotiated, and players on those deals can't be extended until after their third season. So, yes, Purdy most definitely has Russell to thank for his situation, which is much worse in year two than Young’s.

All of this.

Being mad that Mr. Irrelevant is paid less than a college player is beyond stupid if you understand how many 6&7 round draft picks aren’t around 2 years later.

For reference, Tom Brady was a 6th round draft and still played a year after winning the Super Bowl @ ~$850k.

Of course they backed the truck up after that just like Purdy will get next year.

Not to defend JR but he wasn’t the only 1-1 that busted, the contracts for the top picks were getting out of control it was Sam Bradford’s deal that really lead to the new structure

Is there an example of a late round pick doing this? getting a new deal after their rookie year? Antonio Brown and Brady got new deals after year 2, though neither played much as rookies.

which Purdy obviously would have done

Would he? The old deals were 3 years vs 4, so he’d still be under contract and did have UCL surgery, he avoided the Tommy John surgery, but there were questions if he’d be available to start the season. Seems like it would have been prudent for SF to wait and see

The correct way to think about NIl is follow the money. The universities have literally made billions for a century plus and the kids got pennies in return. Even Forbes companies compensate their employees better than college athletes have been compensated. Have to right that.
Second, as we've all figured out(used to be just some of us) the huge majority of universities are liberal army training grounds. The less money they have the better the country is. When do we all figure out that NIL is essentially the liberal left exchanging money amongst themselves and about boasting about their prized "livestock" they just purchased. It's a rose colored version of buying the best slaves.

It’s widening the gap in the haves and have nots. And the transfer portal is just jet fuel for it. It’s not sustainable, some guard rails will eventually get put in place.

They get a free education.
Free housing
Free gym and training by pros
Free meals and supplements
Free Healthcare
On TV every weekend to build their resume fir the nfl

That's not chump change. That's about $50k+ easily a year. For a person coming to lsu from out of state, the compensation of all those is probably about 75k or more. But yea they receive squat

If Arch is a bum then this will be all he ever makes, and Purdy will clearly get a big payday soon. Relax, the world will self-correct.

Wait..what? You have to link me.

What does the #1 pick have to do with this? J-Russ had a legit contract

Also, note: he wasn't the last #1 QB prior to the rookie scale, so what does he have to do with anything?

Bradford was think the last big one, but JR held out and is often used as an example of why the owners wanted to scale back rookie deals.

Regardless of who or why they changed the rookie deals with the 2011 CBA it has nothing to do with Purdy’s current salary being less than some NIL deals. From what I can tell all that change for someone like him is the deals are now 4 years vs 3. I really don’t see why SF would renegotiate if he was healthy let alone when he’s coming off UCL surgery

Charli D’Amelio makes more money as a teenager doing 20 second dance videos (that a lot of attractive high school cheerleaders could mimic) than people who went to college for ten years and save lives. And more money per video than someone who runs into a burning buildings to save lives.

The world isn’t a fair place.

People don’t like NIL and the portal because they want players to love the school instead of money and opportunity. But at the end of the day, major college football players are some of the most talented people on the planet and they are the basis of a multibillion dollar industry. It was inevitable that they would start making bank at some point. And like the real world, some people are going to make more or less than they really should. Arch Manning is far from the first person to cash in on his last name.

One thing about sports, though. You have to be the real deal because every person pretty much has a fair opportunity to whip your arse and take your place. You don’t get all the advantages of having the last name Ford or Bush or Trump or Barrymore. Arch might get a little money now, but if he doesn’t develop into something the competition will eat him up.
