They still take a spot that otherwise goes to a team playing a decent conference schedule.

Quality losses just mean more, Pawwwl.

So what if they get in a 12 team playoff.
They will get bounced out promptly.

We're not getting in this year at 10 - 2. Not with this schedule.

Agreed - and people are complaining, but even at 11-1, I don't think ND gets the 5-seed over a 12-1/11-2 SECCG runner-up.

That 5-seed is so important for the at-large teams to get an easy win to start the playoffs.

Under current playoff format, a 12-0 or 11-1 Notre Dame will almost always end up being the 5 seed since they can't get a top 4 seed, since they are independent. Also, they likely have an "easy" path to the College Football Playoff Semifinals, every year, in the current format. Instead of a Conference Championship game for their 13th game of the season, Notre Dame will just consider their 1st round home playoff game as its "Conference Championship." The 5 seed gets the 12 seed, which will most likely be the Group of 5 school. Notre Dame wins that round 1 game, and then they get to play the 4 seed in the Quarterfinals, which will probably be the ACC or Big 12 Champion, thus avoiding the SEC and Big 10 until the Semifinals.

I love it when a plan comes together. Big 10 shouldn’t have been a bunch of anti-Catholic bigots,

Is this the weekly "I hate Notre Dame" thread where people do mental gymnastics to try to explain why they don't deserve to play in college football?

They’ll still get in if they drop a game or even 2. This will be considered a huge road win vs sec.

And the new and expanded sec will beat each other up and knock each other down the rankings like the old days before bcs. Teams that got left out of the conference realignment like fsu and Notre dame will benefit.
