Yep. My nice 215yd 3W off the tee did me right today.

I need driver real bad on 12. Long par 4 that kills me with my 3W. Always into the wind.

Obviously you don't need driver if you shot your career low without it!!!

Ill leave it in the bag for a few holes for sure. Another 25-30 yards will give me a big advantage on the two holes I doubled today.

Takes water all but outta play for your second shot on 7 (unless you are going for it in 2).

Did you hit it left handed or something?

I don't subscribe to the tee-distance thing. There are shorter hitters who hit everything straight and have no problem playing from 6,600, and then there are guys who have the distance to play from the tips but can't break 100 from the members tees.

I try to play tees that make the course around 6500-6700 yards, beyond that it's no fun for me....but I am a senior so you young guys probably would laugh at the thought of doing that.

A 7,000 yard course like Lakewood in New Orleans is a perfect setup.

Never hit more than 5i into a Par3. Had two Par 5's that were reachable, and never had more than 4i into a Par4...

They clearly thought about the layout there. I hate 7,000 yard courses where the shortest Par 3 is 203 and all of the Par 5's are 505...

I agree with that fully. The extra yards on par 5 are no big thing, it's the par 3's that require 3 woods to reach that make it no fun. I haven't played Lakewood since it was redesigned, glad to hear they set it up right.

I played a course a few months ago these were the Par 3 distances:

223
202
198 (uphill)
215

That's just not fun.

MSU has a nice variety.

170
140
110

190

I played Atchafalaya at 7,000 yards recently. The shortest Par 3 was 195 and the longest was 220.

They made up for some shorter Par 4s.

I don't mind playing the longer tees bc I'm decent with long irons

I like hitting a 4 iron instead of an 8 iron on a par 3 sometimes

I remember playing #2 at 228 or something from the 7k tees. Talk about getting punched in the mouth right out of the gate

My 2I hybrid is 210-220 max or so and my 3W is killing me now.

I laid up.

I don't either but frick, 4 par 3's over 200 and 4 par 4's at 380 is just stupid from the tips.

Even if you hit it 250 you still have a PW/9 iron approach.
