No dues, it really probably isn't a terrible deal if you've got the money and can commit to a course for 25-30 years. Ellendale offered lifetime memberships to anyone who put up 40k and sponsored one of the greens being redone, and I believe those memberships can be handed down a generation so it's actually a steal if you can do it

I think LaTour was trying to recoup some of its cost quickly with that deal

ETA: and if it is just an initiation, I hope they still have 50 available because you would have o be the dumbest MF in the world to do that. They even waived the initiation for non-lot buyers which used to be $5k

Missed the putting discussion, but just to add to it I don't use the line. I use the number and logo. I point the number on the line I want to take and use the logo to square my face to that line.

Any advice on Houston? Thinking about tour 18 but open to suggestions...

Here is what I posted a few weeks ago to the same question:

Hands down, the best course I have played is River Ridge in Sealy, Tx. About 45 min West of Downtown Houston. 27 holes and it winds around the Brazos River. Its in tournament shape as of last month. Absolutely beautiful. $60-70 per round weekend mornings.

If you are more north, Cypresswood Tradition Course (I've never played the Cypress course there, but everyone says to play the Tradition only) near Humble is my second favorite course at $71 for morning rounds. Its pretty close to Tour 18 (which is my 3rd favorite of the pricey courses only because it is so fricking hard and far from me).

Wildcat has 2 great courses that are freaking hard. They are about the same price, but its only about 10 minute from downtown (South on 288). This course is where Vince Young and his entire posse broke down laughing at one of my tee shots. I had only been playing for a few months and went by myself on MLK day. Them (literally a 10-some) and me were the only people on the course.

A little further south is Southwyck (a true links course with a lot of wind) and Clear Creek which are pretty nice and a little cheaper than the previously mentioned courses.

Katy has a few good ones, specifically Golf Club at Cinco Ranch is a fun course..

Interesting. Never heard of it done this way.

I use the markings on the side of the ball, not a separate line to clarify my stance.

I place the ball so that only white is showing. The line and markings frick with my head.

If I don't mark the ball, I'll just putt the way it landed on there. Maybe that's my problem.

"Weave, tell us how you shot a record breaking round to win the LA State Am."

"I thought of this great new putting technique. I'd tell you but it's my little secret."

Using the line is for linear green-readers

Don't act like my technique came from that green notebook.
