Was the pass interference no-call against the Saints staged?

See Jan 3rd 1988, Anthony Carter’s 84 yard punt return broke the Saints leading to a 44-10 Vikings victory in the Superdome,

I remember watching that live. I was convinced MW and money on the game.

It most definitely was called (not called) on purpose

He got there a little early. Was probably trying to avoid a pass interference penalty. That’s what I’ve always told myself.

I mean yeah that is exactly what happened. Still a total idiot for it but he didn't just wiff on the tackle would have been a for sure penalty

Well, there was what seemed to be a looong timeout right before the play. Conspiracy theory is that’s when it was being talked about.

Go back and look at the replay. Even Cam Jordan’s pass rush was so half arse.

Favre was just fine when he threw that interception. He hated Minnesota as if he was going to win one for you guys. He always was a saints fan.

It wasn’t the missed tackle that caused that play. It was the taking out of the CB.

Being a falcons fan sucks, but at least we only got our heart broken once since we have been so garbage. This happens to the Saints yearly.

He had no eyes on the ball clearly. He wanted to have a big hit and jar the ball loose. Zero attempt to pass breakup or tackle. Receiver going high was not expected by him. It was just a terrible play by him. Awful! Looked like a high school player, not a pro.

If you commit PI you give them a chance at a 50 yd FG to win the game, he had to avoid that at all costs.
By completely avoiding the receiver? All he had to do was look at the ball and make a play for it. Not lower your body and launch like a missile. It would have been very close and a hard judgement by the ref for a PI there.

I have never played football in my life, and I still could have easily made that tackle in bounds if I was placed in the exact same position that Williams was in.

You would have been left in a crumpled mess on the field, and while Diggs was jaunting to the endzone your family would already have disowned you.

Worth it when you’ve actually lifted to trophy though

Big deal, MINN only needed a FG

FGs kicked after the clock hits zero don't count.

I mean yes, I think he panicked. I never said his decision was the correct one. He could/should have just stopped and let him catch the ball and make the tackle afterwards since they had no timeouts it would have been game over, but he just had an "oh shite" moment and tried to dodge the receiver so he didn't hit him early. Probably figured someone else could make the tackle but he knocked his teammate out of the play as well.
