Not at all what he said in any way shape or form. Feel free to look up the actual quote in the actual context. but the truth hardly matters when you're just trying to push a specific narrative.

Did the same thing to Alford. The loyalty thing always bothered me more than any of the stuff about how tough he was on players. Guy demanded loyalty and gave none in return.

Expected his players to have thick skin and put up with his shite, yet he was as thin skinned a prick as there ever was.

Hayes was a mean cuss, but his constant trolling of Michigan was some of the greatest shite talk in sports history.

quote:

In 1968, Hayes team won a game against rival Michigan, 50–14. Late in that game, Ohio State held a commanding 44–14 advantage and scored one final touchdown. Rather than taking the more common extra point kick, Hayes instead opted for a two-point conversion, but was unsuccessful, leading many football fans to believe that Hayes was running up the score. When asked later why he went for two points, Hayes said, "Because they wouldn’t let me go for three.”

Think he also said he would push his car across the state line rather than get gas in Michigan.

Thats not what he said. He wasn’t referring to actual rape.

I met him when he was still at IU and he was recruiting a guy I played HS ball with. Even on the recruiting trail he was as much of an a-hole as he appears.

It wasn’t good. But you would think you were about to see some Latrell Sprewell stuff. I’m sure more happened though.

Also IU fans were almost as crazy as the Penn State fans.

see I was kind of with you until I watched this program . Neil kept quiet until Knight talked shite about Neil’s dad. That’s when Reed came out and others also. Reed was a nice guy , the toughest part was watching his mom talk about it. It takes a lot of hard work to get a D1 offer let alone Indiana basketball. He toolk a lot of abuse from that POS narcissist... you should really watch it, it’ll change your mind

I watched it. Didn’t really make me think any less of Knight.

I recommend people read A Season on the Brink. ESPN did a hatchet job on Knight, while the book is a more fair representation. Knight certainly had his faults, but he has also done a lot of good.

Knight should have left coaching in the early 90's because his style was no longer effective. Kids in the 70's and 80's did everything he told them, while in the 90's the world of sports/coaching was just different.

Dpends on your definition of mean.

"On August 16, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Dave Bliss told players to lie to investigators by indicating that Patrick Dennehy had paid for his tuition by dealing drugs. These conversations were taped on microcassette by assistant coach Abar Rouse from July 30 to August 1. On the tapes, Bliss was heard instructing players to fabricate the story of Dennehy being a drug dealer to the University's investigative committee and also said that talking to the McLennan County, Texas Sheriff's Department would give him the opportunity to "practice" his story. The tapes also showed that Bliss and his staff knew that Dennehy had been threatened by two of their teammates when they publicly denied such knowledge. Rouse taped the conversations after Bliss threatened to fire him if he did not go along with the scheme."

Dennehy had been murdered, so Bliss was doing this to a dead kid.

It’s hard to do a hatchet job on a guy who is that much of an a-hole. It’s not like the stuff they reported is untrue or didn’t happen.

So let me ask this.

Was Knight ever involved or even rumored to be involved in a cheating scandal? Did his players graduate and go onto successful careers away from basketball?

Yes he was a tough and mean arse coach, but he taught principles and teamwork. His players became better men because of the things he taught them.

The world of college basketball has lost its moral compass, yet ESPN is trashing Knight?

I did before I posted.

An archived 1983 article.
quote:

Asked by Connie Chung, the NBC News correspondent conducting the interview, how he handled stress, the Indiana men's basketball coach said, ''I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.''

So there's that.

Tell me what I misquoted?

Watched this a couple times. It wasnt good. Would have liked to hear new horror stories from 70s and 80s. The story about him stuffing people in LSU fans in a trash can wasnt in it.

His basketball achievements were substantial. He turned himself into a character because of the tv explosion and popularity of tourney boom in the 80s. He didnt need to. I always thought there was alot more behind the scenes to this story particularly financially that never got covered. In a way I bet the university is still covering up alot of stuff.

You are goddammed right. I'll never forget that. Cost LSU a trip to the Final Four. a-hole gets called for a technical...then berates the NCAA rep at the table at McCourt and smashes the phone, yet got to stay in the game.

My dad still isn’t over this.
