So I was too young to appreciate Walter Payton. I’m currently 32, so he was before my time....
I read an article today that on this date in 2002, Jerry Rice passed Walter Payton in all purpose yards...at 39.
Payton only played 12 years...yes I’m young but my mind is blown. I really had no idea.

12 years is a long career for a RB.

Yeah I get that, but it still took Rice 18 years to eclipse Payton. I didn’t have any idea Payton was that much of a bad arse in that amount of time.

I'm 39. When WP was in his prime, I didn't really know what the hell was going on either. One thing about that era was that it seemed like offense was king. Also, Payton was a RB which means he got the ball probably twice every 4 downs. If he was recording 100+ yards a game, it racked up.

His stiffarm was brutal. Also one of the best conditioned NFL athletes of his era. He trained year round when it was not typical.
