Verbal Commitments

Verbal Commits don't mean $hit anymore.
These kids should have to commit in writing or don't commit.

Decades later it’s about time someone pointed that out.

Yeah, recruiting is a non event for me in football.

Absolutely for me too. I pay very little attention to recruiting now because it’s a joke. There is no “commitment”

Yeah, I cooled off to it too a few years ago. The "commitment" has simply become a look at me social media show that could turn anywhere.
I honestly think that coaches/staff can look at the social media history of a particular recruit and predict his liklihood of flipping

There never was a day, or time, when they did. Kids flipped for as long as I can remember. The key here is to not be soft little pussies and cry every time it works against LSU. There is numerous times it has worked FOR LSU, and weirdly you don't see these threads pop up when that happens.

The schools don’t offer in writing either. It’s a handshake offer from the coach if you’re lucky.
My son’s first offer was way less than that. fricking Ole Miss calls right before he goes for a tryout at another school and ‘offers’ him. Not even an offer they intended to make right on. It’s fricky both ways.

I can tell that the OP does not respect these kids decisions.

Where have you been? There have been signing day flips for as long as I can remember.

I feel your pain, bud. I’ll even add some more chips on the table in the transfer portal makes things a pain in the arse now too. Kids want instant playing time or else. Now even add to it the mega conferences. I’m just waiting for the big ten and SEC to merge. Haha.

Well, the #1 player in the nation for 2025 is verbally committed to LSU. That means something
Posted on 7/6/24 at 10:17 am to DG44
No commitment means anything anymore. Bc they just enter the portal whenever they want. But they need to start restructuring these NIL deals. If they leave for another school before graduation, they need to pay a penalty.

Agreed I don’t get excited till signing day IF they sign

Somebody doesn't understand what a NIL deal is.

They never did…I have seen many players flipped away from us (and towards us) as signing day approaches through the years. We just have a lot more visibility via social media nowadays than we used to have.
Fact is, a kid who never commits will never sign.

No, the bullshite here is a high profile recruit setting a date to commit and does so. Then weeks later posts a Top 5. That shite didnt happen >5 yrs ago.
That is exactly why the statement that Commit means nothing anymore in recruiting. And this is not exclusive to LSU.
U honestly believe there are a few power brokers out there like Saban was that didnt allow this. Now with NIL and portal all the rules are out the door

Except that it did. Remember that Jamar Chase guy?

So, in your fantasy world, nobody ever verbally committed to Saban and then ended up recommitting and going elsewhere?
Some of you simply do not live in reality. You just make shite up as you go, facts be damned.

Alabama’s Reuben Foster finished his Crimson Tide career with 223 total tackles, leading the team with 115 in 2016. He was awarded the 2016 Butkus Award, given to the nation’s best linebacker. He’s considered one of the 2017 NFL draft’s best linebacker prospects.
But prior to him leading the Bama defense, Foster thought he would be playing his college career at Alabama’s biggest rival, Auburn University.
Foster actually flipped between Auburn and Alabama a few times.
His first verbal commitment was to Alabama in July 2011.
In April the following year, he transferred to Auburn High School, just two miles from Auburn’s campus. A few months later, he flipped his commitment to the Tigers, and he did so with a more permanent method than just a statement. Foster got the Auburn logo tattooed on his forearm.

He even had his daughter dressed up in Auburn gear when he made the announcement. ...
