I was hoping they’d pick Pelicans

They didn’t want there to be “confusion”. Yeah. Ok. What kind of fricking dullard would confuse a cooler for a hockey team?

Classic Utah, gotta rip off the Colorado Mammoth
Shockingly similar color scheme, logo, etc

I dig the name. I'm so sick of hearing Hockey Club. Home jersey is good other than the striping cut off the collar. Road jersey blows. Replace the lame text with that badass logo.

Exactly , how can Charlotte get the Hornets back, but we can't have the Jazz. When the Bobcats became the Hornets, that should have been a 3 team trade with Utah getting the new name/mascot

It’s a shame they used one of those shitty graphic design companies that uses the faux shadows and sharp edges like seemingly every college used in the early 2000s to “upgrade” their logo.

Well yea. Is this hard to believe?

Y'all don't get it. It's fine.

What a lot of people don’t really get about the trademark issue with “Yeti” and the like is that it really is perfectly okay to name your hockey team “Yetis” because it’s a hockey team and the other Yeti is a cooler company. The cooler company owns the trademark for coolers marked Yeti. They don’t OWN all uses of the word “Yeti.” If that was the case, Utah hockey would be shaking in their boots over Lacrosse’s Colorado Mammoth. But they are not.
The real problem isn’t really trademarking. It’s marketability. Utah would want to be the best known of the Yeti’s and that won’t happen with an established international brand using the name. So it’s not that Utah hockey can’t have the name… it’s that it’s a problem for them to have it, identity-wise. They have no trouble stepping on a lacrosse team name, because they are easily the most prominent Mammoth on day one.
Truthfully, hockey-wise, Utah Yetis would get more pushback from the Colorado Avalanche, who use a Yeti footprint as a secondary logo and used Howler the Yeti as a costumed mascot. Then you have a hockey ID problem, and the NHL definitely does not want that.

The NHL has worked around this in the past. You had the Blues and Blue Jackets sharing a division for over a decade. The Golden Knights are so named in order to avoid issues with the London Knights of the OHL.
I agree with you, in that the Avs once used a fair amount of bigfoot/yeti branding. But they've retired the Bigfoot logo, and went with the stylized Colorado C instead. Overall, I don't hate Mammoth. The logo looks sharp, though I would like to see the full branding sheet.

What’s not to get? They didn’t move forward because they didn’t want there to be confusion and because their trademark request was rejected.

The New Orleans NHL team will be named the Rougaroo. They’ll pay a lot of money to Ronnie Rantz to buy the name.

Avalanche don't even use the yeti footprint anymore. They haven't for a long time.
