I was having a discussion with some co-workers a while back and we can't really think of any USC Offensive player that lived up to his college hype when he moved on to the NFL. We thought of a few defensive players that transitioned to the NFL pretty well, but not any recent offensive players.

I think Steve Smith has done well and will do very well next year, but I'm not sure if he counts since he didnt have as much hype.

Carson Palmer has been good, but you can't really fault him for the injuries.

Cassel is an interesting and still developing case, so we'll see about him.

That was the problem we had. There are a few mid-level talent guys that made the switch pretty sucessfully. But not many "blue-chipper" i.e Leinert, Bush, Booty was even pretty hyped up. I have serious doubts about Sanchez doing anything. It seems USC can crank out great college players, then they all crash and burn.

I thought about him, but couldn't remember what his hype level coming out was.

What is the deal with this guy? Amazing rookie season, and then he barely gets thrown to anymore. Maybe a new head coach changes things?

Not many, but most LSU players don't get the Heisman, Media attention that the USC big stars do. Maybe I should change the thread topic to Heisman Candidates/Winners that have transitioned to the NFL with success.

He had JV syndrome. He got fat and slow.

Faneca and Mawae have seemed to do okay.

Keyshawn had a good NFL career... Justin Fargas is a solid NFL RB to go along with Bush and White.

Carson Palmer was the 3rd best QB in the league a few years ago. Injuries, to him and the OL and the fact the Bengals returned to form, he has been over looked, but he has been a franchise QB.

we can insert just about any college and say the same thing. If there is 1 players that becomes a superstar, people forget all the others.

Mawae was a 3rd or 4th rounder from a losing team and really, unless an OL is taken in the top 5-10, do they have any hype, aside from people like SFP?

Also, i was assuming the op mean recent vintage, there are numerous offensive players that are USC alum in the HOF.

OJ and Allen were the last big hype players we could think of that truely stood out in the NFL. More recently has been just a bunch of hype with nothing to show. The recent guys might be solid players, but nothing like what they were supposed to be.

Mawae was also a second team All-American at center from a losing team, which spoke volumes about his reputation. He was drafted early 2nd round, which is very high for a center. I'm just saying, he had some degree of hype and he more than lived up to it. Faneca was a first round pick.

My point was that no one ever thinks of offensive linemen, really. LSU's done a pretty good job on that front.
