It is not a matter of living up to their hype.

yes, it is. that's the entire point of this thread. Here is the first post:

I was having a discussion with some co-workers a while back and we can't really think of any USC Offensive player that lived up to his college hype when he moved on to the NFL.

Matt Leinart will be a starting QB in the NFL

who knows, but to this point he has been not lived up to his hype OR draft slot.

Bush is a very dangerous player

not really. he has an awful yards per touch in the NFL. he may never have a single season where he averages 4.0 yards per carry, he hasn't done it yet.

Andre Caldwell had a lot of hype coming out of UF

not really. plus, he was the 97th pick in the draft....not exactly a high draft pick in comparison to Bush, Leinart, jarret, Williams, White, Palmer, etc.

no, he's not. dangerous players put up MUCH better yards per touch figures in an offensive system. Example? Felix Jones.

he has potential to be a good punt returner if he focuses only on that aspect. he busted a couple against the worst coverage team in the NFL, but his average for his career is still nothing special. way too many dance to the sideline returns.

check out his career stats on offense. Just b.c he runs 40 yards to gain 2 doesn't mean he is dangerous. It means he can't play in a system.

I'm not saying he is a good running back, I'm saying he is dangerous. Big difference.

i know, i'm just saying a dangerous offensive player would have more big plays from scrimmage. He rarely ever has one.

Maybe if he ever has a decent OL that can not only pass block but also run block then we can see what he can do.

Great article in the Times Pic on his new approach this season:

The first step to recognizing when you have a bad habit is just admitting it to yourself," Bush said Wednesday after another impressive preseason performance, this one in a full-squad practice against the Houston Texans at their Reliant Park training complex.

"It's like an alcoholic when they go into an (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting or something," he said. "That's the first step, just recognizing it and getting better from there. ... I'm really just working on being explosive and, yes, hitting the holes. I think over these last two years I haven't done that." ...."Reggie is actually hitting the holes a lot harder than he used to, and that's a big improvement by him," Thomas said. "He's looked great."

"The key with any runner is understanding the scheme and trusting the track he's on," Coach Sean Payton said. "I think that's an area he's working with specifically and doing well."

LINK

Saints fans hope. Everytime I saw Duece or Pierre run STRAIGHT through a hole and gain 7, 8, 10, 15 yards, I kept saying, if Reggie would do that consistently and just trust it, he'd meet the hype.

If what the article says is for real, I expect a monster year from Reggie.

bullshite.

Bush has had the worst yards per carry of any saint tailback that got significant carries every year of his career. Deuce, Pierre Thomas, and even Aaron Stecker all had better ypc numbers than Bush. It's Bush, not the line. When Deuce with no knees and unheralded guys like Stecker and Thomas are more efficient every single year it's time to stop pointing fingers.
