Umm... yeah, the reason is ESPN wants live content to air.
The attendance for a college is never going to be good for Tuesday and Wednesday night games. Hell, it's rare enough to see a full house for Thursday or Friday games. There is zero chance of a good crowd in the middle of the week. Alumni are not going to travel in droves on a Wednesday.
