UFC absolutely has to fix its gloves. This shite is ridiculous.

Absolutely. Bellator and Pride both use gloves that discourage extending of the fingers while not hindering grappling.

What would you suggest they do instead with the gloves?

Eta: honest question as I don't know what options are out there.

Honestly edwards should lose the fight. If a guy gets a L for eye pokes then fighters will be more careful.

I lean towards that also. Especially after being warned once. I mean, he may have just ended someone's career and ruined his vision forever.

The gloves Trevor Whitman makes would definitely solve this problem

Joe Rogan had a guy (forgot his name) on his podcast a year or so ago who developed the best gloves for MMA. Rogan and other fighters were looking at them and complimenting how excellent they were for the fighters and how it would greatly limit the amount of eye pokes ....

when Joe asked why these gloves weren't being used in the UFC and across the board in MMA in general, the guy said that he had meetings with Dana and the UFC, but they never could reach a deal because the UFC wanted to own the patent/trademark for them.

basically the UFC wanted to pay him chump change up front in a one time payment for his creation and then go on to sell them all over the place in sporting goods stores, their website, etc. and he declined (and rightfully so)

Round one: kickboxing only with light boxing gloves
Round two: wrestling and grappling only (closed fist ground and pound)
Round three: knifes and swords

It would be a loss if it was an intentional poke. It was completely incidental and unavoidable with the current gloves. That being said, the UFC should start using better gloves, not putting in bullshite rules that make the fighters scared to fight and don’t actually help anything. Not trying to watch MMA go the same route as the NFL

What a terrible take

That was completely an accident

It’s not like Jon Jones or Stipe to actively keep their fingers open

are they serious on this post-show talking about Leon Edwards should be next for a title shot?

he's been sitting out since mid-2019 and has turned down several top 5 contender fights since then, and now that he finally accepted a fight with someone that he is a foot taller than and barely ranked in the top 15 ... he's next for Kamaru Usman?

Edwards needs to beat someone in the top 10 before they start talking about him immediately moving on to a title shot.

Just look at the pictures UFC and ESPN IG accounts are posting

Edwards had a closed fist with his thumb on the outside not fully in the fist

To give him a loss for that would be absurd

The blame is definitely on the gloves

That’s not true at all

Have you been paying attention at all

Basically every single one of his fights have been called off bc of things out of his control

Colby turned down fighting him this month and Jorge won’t even acknowledge him

yes it is true.

sure, a few of those months were out of his control with Covid restrictions, but he's been turning down fights since 2019.

I mean, of course Colby isn't fighting a guy he doesn't have to on 2 weeks notice. That's just dumb.

Also, you need to take what these guys say with a grain of salt. For everyone they claim has turned them down they've also turned down several in the rankings behind them.

Who?

He beat RDA in July 2019 and Gunnar Nelson in March 2019

His next fight after was supposed to be Woodley which covid axed and then effected pretty much every fight after

Colby said he didn’t want to fight multiple times publicly the last few months

UFC has been trying to put that fight together for a while

Jorge needs to fight both them anyway

Leon turned down Colby once in mid-2019 and turned him down again late in 2020. Dana White is even on record talking about Colby signing the bout agreement and Leon not signing it.

It was only a couple weeks ago Leon said that Colby turned him down recently in 2021, but that was awfully convenient of him to say when even he knew that it was only a week or so notice.

Not sure about Masvidal however, but wouldn't be surprised if Masvidal ducked him.

the fact remains... Leon needs to beat someone that matters. he's ranked #3 and picking and choosing easier fights with smaller guys who are barely ranked in the top 15.

These are both your opinions.

UFC took Edwards off the rankings bc he turned down so many fights.
