Brock Lesnar is a national champion heavyweight wrestler though, he has some of the best wrestling credentials of anyone to ever come into MMA. He and Kimbo should not be compared. Yeah, he makes more money because he was in the WWF but i mean Chuck makes more money because rednecks like his mohawk.
Agreed but he should work himself up like Chuck did.

meh, depends really on him working on his training really. BJ Penn's first MMA fight ever was in the UFC. That's worked out pretty well.

I don't mind him fighting in the UFC but not title contenders. Let's face it, if he beats Heath; the UFC will be pimping him for a title bout.
btw-people like chuck because he knocks people out. everyone loves that including rednecks like me

don't forget, the guy he's fighting next had the current champ in deep trouble.

Who's not a title contender at Heavyweight? I don't know how many Heavyweights I can name that are currently in the UFC that couldn't be "title contenders."

i think if anything they had him vs Mir specifically to set him up for a loss against a guy who if Brock won they could still say well yeah Mir is washed up so it doesn't matter. Dana doesn't want some guy from the WWE walking in off the street and winning the UFC HW title, trust me. They want to make it apparent that he has to struggle to transition from fake fighter to real fighter.

and if Chuck had a normal 40 year old man haircut with a part in it he'd be exactly as popular as he is right now with the mohawk and head tats.

I wont mind them pimping him out for marketing purposes if it means more sponsorship money being dumped into the sport and mainstream reconition.
BTW, I think that the guy has a decent skillset and some things that can't be coached like his size and atletic ability. I really believe that if he is committed enough to improving that he could be dominant quickly.

other than that one massive kick, what else did herring do to put nog in trouble?
Posted on 8/5/08 at 10:52 am to lsucoonass
it was a knee i believe, and he damn near knocked him out. what else do you want?

I think Dana wanted to do exactly the opposite of what Elite XC did for Kimbo.
They're not trying to milk him by throwing him a bunch of tomatoe cans. Instead he has to earn his next contract by proving himself against two legit fighters.

Oh no...he's absolutely taking advantage of a favorable situation.
Wouldn't you do it if you were put in the situation?

He has enough money to quietly pay his dues and work his way up, but UFC gave him the keys to their gate and he jumped on it.
What human on this earth is not looking to support themselves by making as much money as they can?

I blame both parties involved. It seems UFC is trying to get new fans in their market rather than appeasing the die-hard fans like me.
Why? It was a business decision. Sign a legit marketable fighter.

It's a slap in the face when ignorant people say "MMA=Kimbo Slice or Brock Lesner." I don't want to be associated with that circus. I like the sport/fighters and not the marketing angle.
You honestly come off as nothing but a whiner here. The guy is a beast and to sit there and think the guy doesn't have probably the most potential in the entire sport, you must be crazy. People love watching dominate figures and if he trains right and learns how to defend himself, the guy is going to be unbeatable.
How can you not market an unbeatable heavyweight? Fans are naturally attracted to that division, ad there's no one there outside of Fedor.
I understand your dislike for Lesnar, but your reasons are silly.

fwiw the shertards are predicting a herring walkover, brock's an actor not a fighter. he would lose to a 155er.

Luke Cummo Vs. Tamdan McCrory
Jason MacDonald Vs. Demian Maia
Manny Gamburyan Vs. Rob Emerson
Kenny Florian Vs. Roger Huerta
Brock Lesnar Vs. Heath Herring
Georges St-Pierre Vs. Jon Fitch
Manny via decision in a boring fight
Kenny via sub in the second round I'll go with RNC
Brock via ref stoppage in the first.
GSP via sub in the second, I'll go with Kimura
I'm not picking the other two.

That's a good point that irks me is how the UFC can have such a water-downed HW division.

I come off as a whiner because I have an opinion that differs from you? Wanting the man to pay his dues is whining? Potential and talent don't mean crap unless you prove yourself in the ring. He simply hasn't done that, period. "Going to be unbeatable"? Now that's silly speculation. Watching Brock on the main card is like watching Notre Dame in a BCS bowl. Sure they have fans, but they don't deserve it. But hey, let's not hate them because they're taking advantage of an opportunity. Give me a break.

Herring over Brock in a walkover?

IMO a national championship in collegiant wrestling HW division is proving yourself a lot more then some of the other guys in MMA. Its not like he was a champion ballet dancer, being one of the best wrestlers will carry a guy in this sport. When you add in his size, strength, and Athleticism you can't relegate him to Kimbo status.

No, you come off as a whiner because you come off as you're looking for something to complain about just because you "never really liked the guy for some reason"

I covered this in my previous post. They are paying for the marketing more than anything.

Dude was beating the frick out of Mir with his forearm. I said in my other post the only knock, IMO, on Lesnar is that his defense sucks. once he learns that......

dude is going to be fricking unbeatable.

don't be bitter. It doesn't look good.

last i checked, they're different sports. Just because Renaldo can kick a soccer ball doesn't mean he can kick field goals. My prediction, he'll lose two more fights and be out of the UFC because they haven't given him an opportunity to mature in the ring.
