That s*** was amazing. I'd put it up there with the Miracle on Ice, USA hockey team vs. Russia in the 1980 Olympics.

Undefeated phenom boogey man monster who's been destroying everyone and after one round of defense, Strickland had Khamzat laying on the ground pulling guard in round 2.

The domination by the wrestle frickers for so many years, and finally one American man marches to victory with a jab and a teep.

David and Goliath type s***.

AMERICA

Love it for Strickland, but wtf went wrong with Chimi's weight cut?

That I don't know. Wasn't he fighting at 170 not to long ago? If he struggled that bad getting to 185, how the heck did he every make weight at 170?

That was one of those high anxiety fights as all the David vs Goliath fights usually are, but I thought at any second, Chimaev was going to connect and it would be over.

His sportsmanship was top notch and that fight was incredible. Bruce’s “And New” was pretty great, too.

Don’t know, but they mentioned he had to cut 47 lbs for this fight.

Strickland/Chimaev looked like a hard sparring session. It looked to me like they were still secretly pahdnas and all the animosity leading up to the fight was fake.

Just watched the replay. Super close. Khamzat got 1 and 4 and Strickland 2 and 3. 5 was about as big of a toss up as could be. Strickland out struck him on paper but they were all jabs. Khamzat had a couple takedowns in the 5th but they amounted to nothing. I can’t call it definitively for either fighter but it used to be you really had to beat the champ to get the decision.

Strickland was the right decision. Defended all but one takedown extremely well, controlled Khamzat on the ground for a while, and just kept landing jabs non stop. Khamzat landed a good shot that broke Sean’s nose but other than that didn’t do much except for the takedown in round 1 and maybe 3-4 good right hands and 10 good kicks.

I dont gamble but when I saw that line I kinda wish I did. The guy’s ground game is so dominant against 99% or the competition he faces.

Khamzat's takedowns arguably amounted to nothing the entire fight. Very little damage scored on the ground by Khamzat. Strickland also managed to have nearly half the amount of ground control time that Khamzat did.

Minus the takedowns, Khamzat landed one solid hard right that didn't even wobble Sean.

Significant strikes 123-98 in favor of Strickland. Strickland landed 118 head strikes.

Strickland's defense neutralized Khamzat's wrestling to the point that Khamzat abandoned it for an entire round at one point.

If that isn't a victory against Khamzat, then what is? When someone shuts down Khamzat's whole game and out-strikes him, and somehow manages to control him on the ground for 3 minutes.

What I heard was that Khamzat thought he was going up to 205 to fight Jiri.

So maybe he had extra weight to lose this time and it drained him more than usual.
