Except in academics and money. You know the stuff University Presidents care about.

Lets face it. UConn was just a horrible fit in the ACC. Did UConn fans really care about playing Central Florida, Tulane and SMU? Basketball is where their passion is and they will right back at home with their natural rivals. Drop football to Independents

Except Dayton has a much more decorated basketball program...comparing Dayton’s academics to St Louis academics is like comparing two Ivy League schools. Both are very good. Dayton is just a better name brand basketball program...it just is.

it's not a big enough brand name to be in the Big East though

in basketball the Big East is equivalent to a P5

And you’re saying St Louis is? Who else that’s out there is THAT much bigger of a name? Let’s be real!! Dayton has just as much if not MORE of a pedigree than half of the current Big East members. Lol I think people forget Dayton has been to 1 National Championship game and 4 Elite Eights, 8 Sweet Sixteens and countless NCAA appearances. The city of Dayton hosts the NCAA First Four because of its great fan base. It’s a basketball city through and through.

They were never in the ACC

They’d be much better off in the ACC but their football program is awful

And not too long ago they were D-1AA/FCS

I wouldn’t call either “very good”

I don’t think they’ll add anyone

They’ll stay with an odd number of teams

Looking further into this after reading some articles...Geno Auriema had his hands all over this or at the very least was in favor of this. He’s right too, UConn just simply wasn’t being challenged in the AAC. I don’t know how much better the Big East is in basketball, but it can’t be worse.

I actually disagree
I think it was the Men’s program

Their recruiting was falling off big time.
Normally a school with NYC ties and they were losing them because none of the teams they played were in the geographical location

Geno has built a dynasty, but this was a MBB move.

Yeah, I don't doubt Geno favors it, and likely lobbied hard behind the scenes for it to happen, but this move would've been a non-starter without men's basketball in mind.

Navy is in the east because they want to be in the west. They want to play the private schools and they want to play in Texas.
From C-USA maybe UAB, Charlotte or Old Dominion. FIU or FAU would fit, but Florida is covered. All unlikely.

If UCONN football goes FCS, does that mean we lose the most bitter rivalry in college football?

Okay.

I'm sure being in a league with Creighton, Butler, Xavier, and DePaul will really drive support back for UConn fans.
