Different ways of going about it but definitely the same level bust- all we have heard about Trevor Lawrence for the past 3 years is that he is NFL ready and will go on any team and be a star… in that respect he’s a colossal failure.

How would you expect him to look on an Urban Meyer coached team? Who has looked good from this draft class besides Jones who is on the Patriots? Fields blows because of his coach. Wilson looks bad because of his situation too. I don’t think Lawrence will be all pro but it’s too early to say he’s not going to be a good qb.

Trevor Lawrence is Ryan Leaf level bust.. decent arm talent but really has no intangibles or leadership skills.

David Mills has 100% proved to be the better prospect

He’s basically having to learn how to play football. Clemson runs a simplistic scheme so he was way behind the 8 ball when he got the league. He never played for a Kiffin, Sark, Brady level coach that implemented pro level passing concepts.

His physical tools are undeniable, but he’s not a good enough runner to make up for his processing deficiencies. The light never comes on for some guys.

I agree that we can’t predict his full future based solely on this year. Obviously. But I also don’t see the purpose in diminishing the fact that he routinely misses wide open receivers. And at a significantly higher rate than most first round QBs. Coaching/scheme/leadership aside, Lawrence, in his own right, has been crap.

Certainly some of his suck can be blamed on coaching. But you’re kidding yourself if you aren’t also blaming some portion of it directly on him.

This right here. TL can't read a defense for shite. It's clear from watching him play. He's got one read and then he improvises. Defenses are eating him up bc he has no idea where they are going.

I fully understand he is not in a good situation. However, that is terrible.

He had 8 or so good seasons plus a SB, not a bad career. Most teams will take it.

So how do you explain Deshaun Watson being a top level QB pretty much right off the bat?

He was exposed by LSU. Now the truth is obvious

I never said he wasn't partially to blame. Only that he's on a terrible team with some bad coaching and it's too early to claim he's a bust.

That was true for Cam Newton also.

Not saying they are the same player at all, but playing in a simple-Simon college scheme isn’t unrecoverable. If Lawrence ends up on the right situation with the right coach before he’s completely ruined mentally, he can still be good.

Okay, sure. But I never claimed he was a bust.

I said he sucked, and you felt it necessary to qualify his suck and add that his coaching sucked too. And while that is obvious, I don’t want it to diminish my main point that Lawerence, in his own right, as a starting QB, objectively, has sucked. No possible way to discount that fundamental reality.

Deshaun was a high level/instinctive runner and improviser and did that in college. He had nearly 2k rushing yards in 3 years at Clemson. You don’t have to be an elite processor if you’re able to buy time for your read to get open. This describes quite a few NFL QBs today.

Trevor is obviously athletic and can run, but it’s never been a big part of his game.

The responses to this thread reflect the same thing happening nationally with TL in that he’s getting a major pass. So many people just assumed he’d be a great pro so rather than being overly critical it’s easy to just blame the situation and punt his evaluation a year. It’s like this year didn’t even count for him. Fields seems to get way more scrutiny publicly even though his coach is also a dead man walking and kind of a punchline at this point.

I’m still pretty skeptical he’ll ever become what he was billed to be. He was never the next Andrew Luck slam dunk of a prospect. That will be Bryce Young when he eventually goes pro, he honesty deserves the hype that the media wanted to assign to TL.
