so your argument is based on how the saints played in one game?

meh. I honestly don't see it. We had a top 5 defense and offense last year. We upgraded at positions we needed to upgrade. We're hungry after a bitter end to last year. Oh yah, Drew Brees.

I think that is what is my mind with the opposite spin. Top 5 offense and defense, but inability to hold on to the ball or get takeaways meant a wild card and first round exit.

inability to make a chip shot fg in OT is the difference between a wild card and home field advantage.

we lost the playoff game because we couldnt hold on to the ball?

Say what you want, But with the TOGETHERNESS of the Saints team and the offseson workouts that BREES conducted. The Saints are GOING to the SB. BOOK IT.

The Packers didn't win their division and needed another team to lose to even make the playoffs. They obviously got hot at the right time, a la the 07(?) NY Giants. Let's not pretend they were some unstoppable force. They weren't.

Furthermore, the Pack have lost players this offseason. Barnett, Chillar, Jenkins (presumably), James Jones, Poppinga, Tauscher, Colledge, B Jackson, Spitz...yeah some of them were injured, but some were contributors.

What have they added of significance? Who is going to run the ball? A rookie OT starting?

What about offseason workouts? They did exactly zero.

We shall see. Personally, I think top to bottom, the Saints are better. From coaching (and I don't think that's close) on down.

It will be a good game on opening day...and maybe the pack wins, although I doubt it. But in the end, the Saints will have a better season.

I'll give ya the takeaways on Defense. But, Drew played on a bum knee all year with no run game. I'd put up some serious bread that he reverts back to his 2009 game and finishes with a 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio. No way he throws 20+ picks this year.

really? This type of argument?

No, they lost because their defense gave up 150 yards rushing, most of which to a running back who had experienced little success in the NFL, and by giving up over 270 yards passing and 4 tds to a combo of Hasselbeck, Mike Williams, Stokely, and Carlson.

But maybe if they had more takeaways and less giveaways, your chip shot field goald wouldn't have mattered.

I disagree with this. The Giants were a very good team at the end of 2007. They went into GB and won the NFC. In very tough conditions. The Favre int aside. they were READY for the Pats and it showed.

Can't agree with this. The AFC EAST is gonna be better. The Pats and Jets are BOTH SB contenders. Buffalo will be MUCH better than Carolina. And the Dolphins could make the playoffs. Can't say that about the NFC SOUTH. Atlanta and TB are just playoff contenders.

Texas, the Saints were literally using 6th and 7th string Rbs for much of the season. Lynell Hamilton and PJ hill, RBs 4&5 missed the entire season. Ivory & Thomas both missed extensive time and missed the playoff game. Bush missed almost the entire season and wasn't 100% when he came back. Even the FB Evans missed time. How can you control the ball when you are using Julius Jones and Ladell Betts?

You can't.

The Seattle loss was on one player: Malcolm Jenkins. He gets hurt in the last game, can't play. IF he plays, Roman Harper role doesn't change, and Darren Sharper isn't in there to get abused. I firmly believe the Saints win the game.

But that's LAST year. It's excuses.

This year, the Saints are better.

1st loss against the Falcons in OT:

Falcons won the takeaway battle 3-1, and outrushed New Orleans 202-43.

2nd loss against the Cardinals 30-20:

Cards won takeaways 4-1, Saints outrushed Arizona 85-41.
3rd loss against the Browns 30-17:

Browns win takeaways 4-1 and outrush Saints 125-58.

4th loss against Ravens 30-24:

Ravens win takeaways 1-0, outrush Saints 208-27.

5th loss against Bucs 23-14:

Bucs win takeaways 3-2, Saints outrush Bucs 106-84.

Playoff loss to Seahawks 41-36:

Each team has 1 takeaway, Seahawks outrush Saints 150-77.

Common theme is turnovers and rushing. A better rushing game means less predictability with the pass, which means less turnovers. That is the offensive concern.

Defensively, plug the running lanes and quit giving up monster games on the ground...

I can see GB getting the edge in GB v NO obviously because they won the Super Bowl. I wouldnt hate on anybody that thinks that. But they were still a six loss team and the Saints were a five loss team. Both had their fair share of injuries. So I can see it being a push.

Exactly. GB got hot at the end of the season. Acting like they are head and shoulders better than the other elite is silly.

That's my point. You can't assume players will be healthy. You can't assume anything. shite happens in the season, and it's all about how you deal with it. Who predicted Dallas starting as bad as they did, THEN having Romo go down? Who would have predicted Colt McCoy leading a team into the Superdome and beating the Saints up? The Packers had injuries at RB, and still got it done.

That's why I am a skeptic.

GB had more depth last year.
Saints starters > GB starters

Saints added some depth.

Easily a push.
