Tougher Goalie Job: Hockey or Soccer?

I think hockey having not played either... that damn puck is small and moves like lightning.

To me it is hockey by virtue of how many shots on goal there are. That said, I am biased having played the position all through HS.

I would say goalie bc of more shots on goal

There's a lot of ground to cover in soccer...

I agree, that is why I am not completely sure.

Hockey. Soccer goalies only have to make a handful of actual saves every game since most shots miss the goal entirely. Hockey goalies sometimes have to make 30+. That being said, soccer goalies have a much smaller margin of error. Let just one get by and it could be game over.

Soccer. Less margin for error. Larger area to cover. No pads. Have to do more.

i played soccer for 14 years but i think hockey would be tougher. smaller playing area means more shots on goal and more involvement in the game. soccer goalies may get 4-5 tough shots they have to save a game that probably are more difficult to save than a tough hockey shot. but there are at least double as many shots in hockey

a hockey goalie takes up more space in the goal naturally (%)
puck is smaller than soccer ball
pucks and soccer ball change direction (deflection vs curving)
both hard as hell!

yeah it seems pretty even.
you could also say hockey games have slightly more scoring so goalies give up more goals, but since there are more shots taken in hockey its proportional to how much on average a soccer goalie gives up

Hockey. You face more shots, faster shots, and quicker shots. By that I mean, hockey players create traffic in front of the goal, and by virtue of rebounds and pace of play, you have shots from odd angles before you know it.
In soccer, you know damn well if your team is on the attack, you literally have multiple minutes of down time.

FYI, I'm about five rows up, and ten seats to the right out of this picture. (Basically, 10 rows up on the right post.)
The people that bitch about Jonathan Bornstein never got see Ramiro Corrales at left back for the US, up close and personal.

another thing, a hockey goalie can stop a puck with his hand most of the time
a soccer ball has more momentul and a one handed stop attempt (not including punches) will usually result in a goal and a sore shoulder

I have played both and hands down its hockey. In the NHL is 82 games plus playoffs...you are more like a soldier in soccer long periods of time where nothing happens punctuated by crazy action...Goalies especially on a bad team are peppered with shots...

I play hockey, and I have gotten brave and put the pads on and played goal just to see what it was like. It's fricking hard.
I would like to see how hard playing soccer goal is, I am a tall guy and I think I could do well.
