This is a walk-off Rouge rule.

quote:

With one second left in regulation, the Argos lined up for a field goal. The kick just missed the mark, going just outside the left upright, yet the Argos players were celebrating the miss.

Watching the replay, I couldn't make sense of it.

Then the announcers provide an explanation, alluding to the CFL rule that states missed field goal attempts that go out the back of the end zone count for one point.

Kicking the ball far gets you a point? That is beyond stupid. It's time to invade. Enough is enough.

I can imagine Martin Gramatica missing a FG and jumping up and down celebrating because his team got one point for the win and breaking his ankle in the celebration.

I feel as though I am compelled to agree with you on this point both with your evaluation of the problem.....and your proposed solution.

Seems like a silly rule, in this instance.

Just boot it as far as you can and don’t worry about accuracy

This isn’t quite as dumb as the two inch onside kick rule

Wouldn’t it make for some interesting decisions around the 45 yard line?

crazy that there was no time on the clock when the ball was snapped, which is legal up there

CFL for years had the two point conversion attempt after a touchdown for decades and decades, before the NFL implemented it… As we all know, the two point conversion made games, much more dramatic as the 4th clock was winding down… And the clock stops after every play with two minutes left to go in the fourth quarter making many dramatic finishes to games… It’s not uncommon for a team to be down to scores and end up winning the game with the way the CFL has written their rules

I know their end zones are 25 yards long. Are the goal posts on the goal line, or on the back line? If they're on the back line, wouldn't any missed FG be one point?

End zones are 20 yards deep, and the goal posts are at the front of the end zone.

CFL v. NFL: Seven Major Differences

When the CFL expanded to the US, including Shreveport, the marketing slogan to attract US fans was "Longer, wider faster".

I’d think the % of doinks has got to be really low and would not outweigh the chance of just booting it and not worrying about accuracy.
