ETA: you were justifying it, but it doesn't matter. It's not really an important event and i agree the craziness behind it is human and thus not limited to a specific location
Personally, with Cleveland in the World Series I'd refer to their fans throwing glass bottles at refs in 2002.

I just wanna fight. I'm not even from Chicago and I hope they lose.
But yes, I took it too seriously. Needed a distraction at work today. Haha. Cheers.

Do not be fooled... every single Cubs fan... 100% of them... blamed Bartman for that loss. Not ONE came to his defense until well after.
Just look at all the footage and documentaries. You think there would be one Cubs fan coming to his defense, but no. They all wanted blood.
That's why Cubs fans are the worse and I wish them the worst. Blaming a fan for your own shitty team's defeat. Pathetic
What got me was all the idiots around him who went for the ball but missed, and as soon as Alou got pissed and cameras panned in they were pointing him out and joining the mob. Freakin losers.

It's a shame that it happened, I feel terrible for Bartman. That being said you are absolutely kidding yourself if you think any other city would have handled that any differently. For proof look at the rant on any given day.
It was a special circumstance for the Cubs - haven't won anything in over 100 hundred years, midwest city that takes sports too seriously...no one really caring or knowing that much about the Bartman gaffe until the TV announcers wouldn't shut-up about it and kept showing Bartman on TV and blaming him and then the fans listening to the TV broadcast outside the stadium started the ruckus and phoning people inside the stadium.
But to answer your question I don't think Los Angeles or Anaheim or Arizona or Colorado would react that way - sports isn't everything for those people.

A drought in baseball championships.
Were you alive in 2005?
quote:Not really. Most Chicago natives are also Bears/Bulls/Blackhawks fans, so I don't feel the least bit sorry for them for their Cubs championship drought.
Less of a false narrative for you??
quote:
so where is the straw man you say I am attacking?
You are making a straw man argument by trying to diminish the trashiness of what Chicago fans did by insinuating that the exact same thing would have happened elsewhere. It didn't, so it doesn't matter, even though you're probably wrong.

I'm watching this right now. Because I want to appreciate how big this moment is. Lots of memories and feels coming back.

The people outside the outfield walls during that game. Holy balls.

Steve bartman should be allowed to throw out the first pitch for World Series game
Worst idea ever.
Because as soon as the Cubs LOSE that game, he's right back at square one with the insane trash that are Cubs fans.

Very but the media really let Alex Gonzalez off the hook.
He's one of the luckiest dudes of all time. He's the Chicago bill Buckner but nobody cares. Csb: I know a chick that went to HS with him and said that he was a major douche IRL lol.

He should throw the ball out and get a long standing ovation.
for game 3. If they lose they lose at least they made the World Series and they can clean/redeem themselves in the series with this action.

Cubs fans are all annoying, overgrown frat boys (I'm talking the ones in Chicago, not the WGN latch key fans from Missituckasee).
But Fox Mulder is an insufferable nerd.....so I'm not.

I love this line. Completely untrue, but cubs haters will continue to recite it until they believe it to be fact.
Let me guess...Cubs fans also don't care about the game and are just at Wrigley Field to get drunk?

I'm not a nerd, but I am unusual. There's no stereotype that can hold me

That's not straw man fallacy, though. Straw man would be misrepresenting his assertion and attacking my misrepresentation of his assertion. He very clearly stated that chicagoans were exceptionally trashy. Asking him to cite examples of where something comparable happened in another city and the fans behaved better is not a straw man because it is completely relevant to his assertion that what happened in Chicago was "exceptional."

It has changed a lot, but you have to admit their is a large portion who are into the scene.
As a season ticket holder, I have seen the change, from hey, let's have another beer at Murphys to lets get in and watch BP.
And the biggest change is going from hey, holy crap, we won, to one of confidence that they are going to win.

Cubs fans needed a scapegoat and he fit the bill perfectly.
I don't blame em -- I'm a Nebraska fan and when Byron Bennett shanked his FG attempt in the 94 Orange Bowl vs Florida St and cost us the national championship I wanted him lynched
