re: Tom Brady: There’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL due to rule changes, bad coaching

He’s right. You don’t realize how much it’s changed until you watch a game from 5-10 years ago.
The NFLs focus seems to be expanding their fanbase. And that means 12-month talk about football, bigger draft day events, more social issues, new rules that protect star players, and keep new fans investing (more scoring). They’re not focused on keeping the fans who’ve been around for decades, you can’t leave even if you tried. Just my 2 cents.

There was a lot of mediocrity in NFL officiating on that cursed evening of January 19, 2002.

Football is king.
And re: 2002, that call changed the fortunes of Oakland and St. Louis as NFL cities.

This hip drop talk is really sickening. I don't how you're supposed to tackle a man as big and strong as Mark Andrews or Derrick Henry without grabbing the waist and dropping you're weight.
Tight ends and big receivers will become way more valuable that's for sure.

That game against the Broncos where he got the shite kicked out of him still has to be up there of biggest physical arse kickings a QB has ever received.
You should rewatch the NFCCG with the saints/vikings
Favre got absolutely pummeled that game. Dude was a warrior
God I miss those days. for so many reasons…..

Brady was the biggest crybaby and benefactor of the rule changes. He might have a point, but he’s not the one to make it.

I feel like maybe Brady was the benefactor of many of those rule changes. They allowed him to play as long as he did.
A benefactor is someone who provides resources to a person, cause, organization, etc., with intentions that are generally charitable in nature.

Tha 2015 AFC title game in Denver is still on of the greatest games Brady ever played. Probably top 3-4, even in a loss.
His offensive line was horrific. The O Line coach even got fired the very next day and they brought back Scarneccia because the OLine was not ready for the crowd noise.
Brady was also concussed for probably much of the 4th qtr, and yet, after being pummeled all day long, he and Gronk led a TD drive with no time left after hitting 3rd down after 3rd down, and even on 4th and 10.
Only by missing the 2pt conversion did they lose the game... And Gronk was open, but Brady, who was probably seeing triplets of every number, missed him.
It's one of the all time great Brady performances. It's up there with the 2007 Super Bowl where the Giants hit him and hit him and hit him all night and yet he still led a go-ahead TD drive with 2 mins left in the game.
Asante Samuel lost the perfect season for them... Not anyone else.

He’s an attention whore.
He will be the main character in Springsteen’s “Glory Days” in a few years.

Agreed it's up there, the 4th and 10 throw to Gronk to set up the TD.
Brady broke a lot of peoples hearts for many years, they're alot of people who've seen enough of Tom Brady so anything he says or does gets dismissed

Lots of drops. Its become more about forty times and measurables and less about overall ability.

Says the guy that got a roughing the passer call literally for a hand brushing against him.

While making $37MM per year for working 20 hours a week for 4 months and banging OT 8.5s in five star hotels around the world the other 8 months?

They took it entirely too far. A player on the ground now has to literally stand up to tackle the QB. If he reaches out while on the ground to grab the guy, its 15 yards.

NFL is a watered down product. It’s painful because I love football.

He's doing a pretty bad job of being an attention whore if that's his goal in life.

The Carson Palmer hit was a few years before Brady’s so seems like his point is made

His point about offensive players needing to learn how to protect themselves better is something that needs to get more attention.
The focus is always on removing things defenders can do, but some responsibility needs to be placed on the offense and coaching.

I do, its fricking dumb rule, so is the horse collar rule and soon to be this thing they are calling hip drop. Its freaking football you get tackled injuries happen. Every rule they make or change they claim is for safety is hinderance to the defense. Eventually you will start seeing scores of 63-56 every week because playing defense will become near impossible. They should do a hard reset on the rules back to the mid 70's.
